Rogue One review: New Star Wars film is effective and satisfying, but cautious

Rough. I think it has a lot of magic and spirit, definitely more than Force Awakens. It isn't all dark and dreary, nor is it cautious.

except on every committee in the Ed Dept they would still be arguing the point, they wouldn't have finished, strange names or not. I am almost certain that one person's role on any committee is "designated blocker".

I probably have this movie on par with TFA on first watch, though the last half hour or so was quite great. Comparing this to Empire? Psssht.

Again the main characters didn't seem to have a whole heap of chemistry. Cassian and Jyn were kind of boring. I warmed to K2 as the movie went on (had no idea it was Alan Tudyk - cool!) and I thought Chirrut and Baze (yes I am reading the character sheet from Google) were a really cool duo and could have featured a bit more. They had the most chemistry between any characters in Star Wars since the original trilogy imo.

Loved the line "I'm blind!". Also the CGI(?) with Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher - barely any uncanny valleyness about it. Also was that the YOU'LL BE DEAD guy I saw? Oh and what was up with Saw's Blue Velvet esque breathing mask. He needed to be more nutter to pull that off.

Anyway, it was pretty good.

Speaking of pew-pew, has a Stormtrooper ever not died instantly after being shot despite wearing full body armour? It provides about as much protection as a mankini.

Even worse, disney have started to play with what they look like - in TFA they had new suits and assumedly some sorts of upgrades but did it help? Nah. Papier mache.
