Because **** those for what ever reason are unable to study or complete an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are falling out of trees and in no way being favoured to those whose dads mate is a chippy or which footy club wants to woo a talented 16 year old to their colours.

Put ya helmet on mate and get in there!

Ding, Ding, Ding. That's what you get from studying hard or working hard towards completing an apprenticeship. You get rewarded for it.
You know that huge proportion of these people are trying to do exactly that right? And that by paying those people less, it means they have less money to be able to get those qualifications... as it might mean less money for:

That newest text book
Credit on the metrocard for the train to TAFE
A service for the hatchback tog et to the job site
Upfront payment for tuition fees to save on HECS
Childcare for when you're attending lectures

If we want more GPs and Dentists.. pay students working shitty abr jobs whilst they're at Uni a fair amount so they can keep studying. Otherwise they'll have to quit, and take that little bit less shitty low level office job to pay the bills.

hahaha I genuinely laughed out loud. The lack of logic is astonishing.

Ive worked in hospitality the last ten years. Given almost everyone except managers are casual, just about everyone wont be effected. Pretty clear logic i would have thought

Nah. Just don't pay them double on a Sunday what they got paid for doing the same thing on a Friday.
Seriously. You are either being purposefully obtuse or you're just thick.

They haven't taken a weekly wage of these occupations and averaged it out per day. That would be fine. There might be some that would argue weekends are family time but most would be able to cope with that. They've just slashed the amount of money one can earn to put more money in the pockets of fewer people.

This is a pay cut, not an "even out".

Your logic went like:

"We need to do this, businesses cant afford it"

and then

"its hardly anything, you wont even notice it"

You can't have both of those things. They're mutually exclusive.

It's either enough money that employers really cant afford it but its going to hurt the individual or its so little money the indvidual wont feel it and therefore the employers should be able to pay it.

Are you drunk?

Call a plumber on Sunday.
Book a caravan plot in school holidays.
Book a hotel in Melbourne on Grand Final weekend.

Businesses change their pricing according to market forces *all the time*

You're equating business pricing strategy based on demand with a tax. It's not comparable.

Are 'loaded wages' still a thing, where you get more per hour instead of penalties?

That would've been a good compromise.

Most places are busier on weekends and employees are operating with less resources. It isn't the same thing.

Can confirm.

Also for some reason customers are bigger campaigners on weekends.

One of the people I work with is part time and has just gone back to Uni to complete her degree so she can only work Saturdays and Sundays. So how does Papa G's theory work with this? Not only do they have to work during the 2 busiest days in retail each week, if it we're Papa G's logic she'd be getting exactly the same as I would be working Monday to Friday.

Massive difference to an employer with 50 staff is what macca is saying.

Small difference to each individual massive difference to business owner.

Good on her. What does it matter how busier it is? The busier you are the quicker the day goes.

Weren't most of the Fair Work Commissioners including the two vice presidents appointed by Bill Shorten when he was workplace Minister?

That is where I would be directing my anger.

Pubs yeah.
All working one weekend shift?

And how much turnover do you reckon they have?

What do you reckon their margins are?

If your business employs 50 staff with turnover to support that, and this cut to the living wages of your employees is the line between loss and profitability, your business model is in serious ****ing peril no matter what.

Does anyone here have one of the guernseys in my avatar?

The club gave one to a fan a few times, obviously way before the 19th man reared his head.

I'd like to see what the front looks like, I remember it being gold with a logo and sponsor (like a training top).

Sydney is a bit different to Melbourne due to our wonderful lockout laws so the squeeze is on your traditional pubs from every angle.

Personally I would rather they rip out all the pokies and pay staff more. Sadly that is a pipe dream.

I just noticed that it says 'player' instead of 'man' too.

And those sexist @rseholes got the AFLW team!
