The severity of the storm should be one consideration, but not the only one, as to whether to postpone the game.
The fact the players (plus coaches, fans etc) are sandbagging their houses in the lead up to this should also weigh heavily on the decision. How are you meant to prepare mentally with that happening?
The intention of the OR was to showcase AFL - which is aided by favourable conditions - to a northern market without rugby being in town. That’s now out anyway given games will be played on the same weekend making the early start to the season less sensible.
Finally, the AFL should give all those travelling suitable time to reschedule fairs etc. Many would have booked air tickets that aren’t able to be changed within 24 hours, so the earlier they call this the better - nobody would begrudge them erring on the side of caution when safety is a consideration.

Sunday would be heavily dependent on there being no infrastructure or flooding damage in Brisbane after the cycle/low passes through.

My prediction is it crosses the coast Friday 2am-6am when the tide is the highest.
That seems to be a regular pattern with cyclones hitting around high tide times.

I propose season 2025 is cancelled.
Let the players have the full pre season they deserve. Joe has his year off. Get all the stars fit and firing, and we can be reigning premiers for another year.
And then with Joe back from his holiday in Byron, we can unfurl the flag in 2026 at a rebuilt Gabba with brand new shades and ‘Let It Go’ blaring from the grandstands.
