I’ve no idea which assistants are good or bad. How does everyone else tell?

Well, generally gun assistants move on to other clubs to broaden their knowledge base. The exception to this tends to be when they're assistants at perennially successful clubs. Although assistants at these clubs are often poached with hard to refuse assistant offers, or appointed as head coaches of other teams.

It's hard to tell as an outsider. But I think we definitely have a couple who have been in the same position for too long.

Isn't Damien Carrol head of coaching and development. similar roles albeit different title to Heath Younie.

They have Marco Bello listed in the coaching panel as a development coach. In Carrols bio it mentions he’s in charge of the mids along with head of coaching.

Campo's actual results don't warrant his removal.

Midfield was the key growth area that took the club to the GF in 2017, when they were considered to have mid-table personnel. They did this in a season where GWS finished top 4, with their start-up concession talent. No top 10 draft selections for Adelaide.

The numbers tell us Richmond is winning because they can defend one ground.

They can perform one aspect of the sport well at one venue.

So it is structural inequity costing us. Not Scott Camporeale.
I see your point, but why has our midfield been our biggest weakness consistently during Campo's tenure except for the one short golden window of 2017 (when it still failed at crucial times)?

O'Keefe must be absolutely terrible if even we don't offer him another contract
He's on huge money for an assistant, so don't think we are getting great value for money... so using that cash to get an experienced senior assistant like Sumich would probably be money better spent.

However, we should also be reviewing all assistants in the same manner... But the major issue that needs addressing is our fitness & conditioning staff, because if we can't get our best players fit on the park, it doesn't matter who is coaching.

So the Suns are after Francou. Stewy Dew obviously putting his list of wanted assistants together and getting the club to make it happen. I hope we can manage to keep Francou. I'd be happy for them to have Campo though.

Perhaps we compromise, they can have Francou but only if they take Campo off our hands as well.

I hope we keep Francou. Given he's on a multi-year contract and wouldnt be moving to a head coach role it'd be hard for them to poach him. Wonder if we can use this to grease the wheels on a trade for one of their picks?

Is poaching a contracted assistant for a similar role even a thing?

I’m keen on some fresh blood among our assistant coaches but Francou isn’t one I want to lose.

Who is the dark haired bloke that sits beside Pyke in the coaches box?

I know people will scream nepotism but I’d love to bring back truck as the backline coach. Would be a massive upgrade on hart
I'm actually not sure you would find many people who would disagree with you. At least he has gone and built himself a reputation at another club first. A successful club at that.

It would not surprise me if Tate Kaesler isn’t appointed as the SANFL coach. He was close to getting the AFLW riole when they started and now that team has an opening.
According to the Advertiser we've offered the SANFL job to Hart, but he wants to remain in the AFL system, which is why he's willing to go back to Melbourne for a job. So I guess worst case scenario for him is he's the new SANFL coach.

It's hard to get a read on Francou. Our forward structures were decent under David Teague. We were the highest-scoring side in the AFL three years running. However, some were of the view that this was because of our sheer talent up forward. This year our forward structures have been disgusting but our forward line has been exceptionally affected and disrupted by injury.

Is the structural breakdown because of Francou, the injuries, or because all our structures across the ground have turned to shit too?

If Francou did go up to the Gold Coast, who would make a good forward coach?

I was thinking the same thing, this season our forward line has looks clogged up for nearly the entire year, and our entries don't at all suit the style of the players we have in there (high kicks too stagnate contested marks situations), and with the exception of Jenkins every player is having their worst season in the last 4 years.

I know we've had his continuity issues with players, and our mid's haven't helped all that much. But its still surprising that Francou has such remarkable fan fair considering we've gone from the #1 scoring team for 2 years running under Teague to #10 under Francou.

Just look at the Key Performance Indicators:
Goals: 12th in AFL (1st last year, 52 ahead of 2nd team)
Goal Assists: 12th in AFL (1st last year, 37 ahead of 2nd team)
Goal Accuracy: 11th in AFL (5th last year), most likely indicating our shots on goal are from harder scoring positions
Inside 50's: 1001 or 10th in AFL (1st last year)
Marks inside 50: 171 or 16th in AFL (1st last year)
Therefore in 2018 only 17% of kicks inside 50 result in marks, down from 26% from last year

At a certain point you have to stop making excuses for the guy and just ask whether he's even that good!

All fair points, I'd give him another year and if there isn't improvement see ya

Good analysis but those facts are so disappointing.
