I'm not going to get into that topic with you as I recall a few seasons ago pointing out how poor your administration was - which you basically referred to me as a troll...and of course they all got the sack, but never mind that ;)

I was in a fortunate position to know a fair bit about the SANFL/Crows/Power relationship, I'm not now so I can't comment on the way it operates today.
Me in particular or in general.
We have had some shocking administration errors and you will not find too many Port supporters that disagree. We may disagree on one particular person who just like KT started out as a non Port supporter and got up the nose of the SANFL. I think he did well but was limited on what he could do other than to be a whistle blower and just like all whistle blowers ended up being the scapegoat.

wrt making money or not, a few years back Port had the opportunity to sell one or more of their loss making games but the SANFL was totally against it. Strong sense of civic duty was it? :)

I don't think the SANFL was the only one against that idea in the first place....

but anyway, you've got some good lads in charge now, so hopefully we get more common sense from all parties and the two teams have reserves next year.

Disagree on the first point and agree on the second. That means I 100% agree with you to let bygones be bygones and that now is the time to move on and not to get stuck looking backwards. :thumbsu:

dowdell moved to centrals

one thing that needs to be looked at for a reserves team is how to manage all those players competing for the same spot? crows have 3(?) reserves ruckmen i believe. how do you go about managing a situation like that?

A Reserves team for the Reserves team? o_O

Rowey spoke of this last night. Last weekend Port got to watch Lobbe play against Renouf. If they were in the same team Lobbe would've spent 60% forward youd think

Shaw will be returning through the glenelg reserves this weekend.
Great news. He's spent a very long time on the injury list this year.. hopefully that's the end of his soft tissue problems. Fingers crossed, because his history of injuries does not make for pretty reading.

Excellent point. This is actually one of the biggest arguments against having a reserves team (along with cost, finding extras to make up the numbers, finding a league which will accept them - and getting the license owner (the SANFL) to agree to the whole arrangement).

Clubs have operated reserves sides for close to 100 years with little no to trouble yet the crows have bucked they system in the past 20 and shown the assume flaw in the system.

Wow, any day now - every club will be disbanding their reserves side and following our system as that's worked so well.

I'm surprised the club wanted to send Dowdell to Centrals - they've got Guilhaus dominating the ruck, and Hardy, Milne and Claughton as handy back up rucks, and fellow basketball rookie Osborn out injured.

Having said that, he's slotting straight into the league side at full forward (replacing the suspended Alan Obst), so we'll see how he goes. Just seems an odd choice to pick Centrals for the reasons the club moved him (more time in forward and ruck).

At least he doesn't have to put up with those bullshit roads every week any more.

Just need to get Hartigan out of that hellhole now.

Pretty much the last chance salon for Dowdell do we reckon?

Yeah if he doesn't get his haircut now he won't be able to for a while.

I think his initial contract is up this year, but I'm not sure what happens from there. If he's not able to be kept while being off the senior and rookie list he's probably as good as gone.

Yes, surprised he didn't go to the Bays, I hear they are needing a ruckman come forward now that McKernan has established himself as a regular in the crows :D

Looks like Ronny Fuller is clearing the decks of all the B graders, McKernan & now Dowdell.
I wonder if Hartigan is walking around on egg shells wondering if he will be the next :D

Its not a very big argument. If that is a plausible barrier to entry then we may as well give up on the whole reserves idea because we aren't even trying.

From my understanding AFL lists have 47 players - 40 senior and 7 rookie.

So imagine the extremely rare situation of Adelaide playing on a Friday night and not using/holding any emergencies and Adelaide Crows Reserves play on Saturday. Imagine this rare situation where we have absolutely nobody on the injury list. We will still use 44 players leaving 3 players who can't have a game.

That situation is going to be extremely rare.

Now to the Ruckman issue. We have yet to not play 2 ruckman in our side over the past 3 years. Our second side will no doubt also carry 2 ruckman. So we have accounted for 4 out of 5-6 ruckman on our list every week. That means we are going to have 1 possibly 2 very junior young project ruckman (most likely from the rookie list) not playing.

That is also simple. Do a deal with the money hungry SANFL where each Crows player is delegated to play for an SANFL reserves side if they can't make one of our two sides. Pay them a cash amount for each game. If they aren't good enough to make our reserves side, I doubt they would be good enough for SANFL level.

i reckon it might have something more to do with being coached by laird personally. he's done some handy work with talls in the past. especially guilhaus this season, he was nothing at eagles, now he's probably the best ruckman in the league this season

True - if anyone can make something out of Dowdell it would be Laird. Done some great things with talls in the past - even made one into a Jack Oatey Medallist (Jason Mackenzie).

He needs to down there. Looks like the players are starting to run another coach out of the club, and Fuller needs to get rid of those who think they're bigger than the club.

Ahhh yes, the money hungry SANFL.....as compared to the wasteful, arrogant, self serving AFL.
Make up your mind. Do you want AFL players at SANFL clubs or not?
More bullshit! Stop trying to stuff around and manipulate an independent viable football league for your own selfish means.
