Wouldn't the shadow minister be the girlfriend, when you are also married?

Hmmm, I think you might be onto something here.

Meanwhile the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs is for those people who have 2 wives at once

What is wrong with people? That would not happen at our house, my wife is as fanatical, if not moreso than me about footy !

I'm with you Jim, my lovely wife is a massive Freo fan. Still learning the game and some of the players but she has a surprising grasp of what footy is about. Love the way she cheers on McGee (!) for his physicality and willingness to fly the flag for our younger players. Also love the way she knows that everyone apart from Freo are a bunch of crabs that deserve no respect whatsoever.

Anyway, back OT, good on you AFL08 for the OP.

Why wife in a Freo convert. She supported the Eagles all her life until she met me.

I think it should be mandatory that all Freo supporting guys convert an Eagles supporting lady out there. Then through natural selection Freo will develop a bigger supporter base ;).

This may cause some angst amoungst many West Coast families.

Geez i thought i was the only one lucky enough to have the mrs. also revolve her weekend around the footy.. lucky us :thumbsu: doesnt always go down well with our friends, but after years of absences they get use to it

I have been a member for 10 years this year. My wife has been a member since day 1. Her cousin and sister were in the original cheer squad. She has been to 3 grand finals, only one with me a couple of years ago.

She knows her footy !

CEO of the department of leisure and entertainment?
:D

I haven't converted her as such, I think she's treating it like a date (bizarre, coz I'm admiring lot's of men from afar and completely ignoring her) - but she did wear purple clothes to the Cats final (refused offers of freo scarves, jackets etc).

If we happen to get up tomorrow night her true colours will show I am sure.

I converted my missus to the dockers from a very pro Eagle family :) She knows what they look like now and "Valentine" is such a good player

Wish I could convert my husband - he is a typical weagle. But 3 adult children are all purple and he loses all footy arguments!

Nice work.

My kids are on the cusp, I was going alright in indoctrinating them into the horde, then discovered that my first born's first teacher (PPrimary) is mad Eagles fan. My daughter loves her, now suddenly she's always asking how the Eagles are doing, telling me how she goes for them because "they always win" and, this is the saddest part of all, the only player she recognises in the entire AFL when it's on TV is NicNat .

Well, lucky I love her anyway, but it's getting desperate, it's going to be intensive 'corrective re-education' going on over summer, then some serious screening of her teachers from now on ... might even have to revert to home schooling.

As for the wife, she hates AFL. Her comment around this time of year is, "I'm glad it's finals, that means the season is nearly over", then she gets the chores list out an starts writing.

On topic,

Say what you will of Steves, but what they did last year has in some ways been compared to what Carltank did this year with Mick for Ratten. Chalk and cheese for mine. Not only was the Malthouse thing the worst kept secret ever, Carlton is a zoo compared to how professional the Steves managed to go about things (even if you disagree with the outcome).

Check this out for example.

Stay strong PapaJ.

Absolutely, the Malthouse move was the worst kept secret going around, Lyon's appointment was kept so hush hush and happened so quickly it was a genuine shock. Very surreptitious.

It's not just the quietness of it, but the relative cleanses of it. These sorts of moves are never going to be neat and tidy, and Harvey helped because he stayed strong charactered throughout, but once the move was made, contracts were honoured (in terms of payouts etc.) the rest of the organisation came into sync with it, and there wasn't mass sackings of coaching staff and poor communication shown therein.

My wife and I went to a game at Subi the day we got married. We beat Essendon, then we flew to Bali :)
We are separated now after 10 years but really good mates. Tomorrow night I'm going to her place to have dinner and watch the game together.

Uh huh...extra celebrations after a win? :D

Full praise from THIS foundation member to the Steves and a huge $%*&^ to the ratbags who kicked Freo and its fans in the guts for the first 5 or so years.

It astounds me that in our club history we had an absolutely disastrous beginning... starting at zero and going backwards... and yet people are still somehow dark on the Steves?

The early years of the club didn’t just give is nothing, they subtracted from our chance of success. Far from giving us something to build on, they gave is something negative that had to be dismantled before we could start again.

It is great to see some corrections to some stupid decisions, some of which go back to the very inception. I just wish that in 1994 at that night in E Shed in Fremantle that someone had grabbed the microphone and said, "Only joking.... the real launch is in 30 minutes!" Instead we had to wait for a revolution.

Long live the revolution!

Viva la basashi !!!!!

No credit to Schwab, Connolly or Hart for getting the finances in order basashi?

So, to sum up, the reason for all the current outpouring of love for the Steves is because they:
1.) got rid of the "clown" colours (destroyed the club's heritage at its core, I say. Just ask Moo about his beloved Railways and their club colours. Still, I'm a traditionalist. Club colours are what they are. Whether you like them or not you stick by them through thick and thin).
2.) got Lyon to the club (even though that apparently resulted from an accidental conversation and was made possible by money the club already had and a playing list that was already here).

Is that about it?
