Too true Tugga... but that's why it's going to be such a hard grind.
It will need to be a generational thing.
I have mates here who never really followed AFL but have sons who are 7 or 8 and they actually have them in Auskick now etc...
That's where the growth will come from... new supporters, not converting rusted on toothless Parra Eeels westies.

It will take a long time though, I concede that.
Fair point. I am old school in that I don't want to see out the rest of my life (hopefully 30 years at least) watching a team that the AFL is propping up and will do anything it can to see it succeed while my club has played in 2 finals appearances in 30 years.
Ignore me at your peril AFL. I am already an NRL club member and while I will love Richmond until the day I die, I will have no hesitation in abandoning your general product if I feel it takes me for granted.

I could never work out this second team rubbish. Its Richmond or nothing.

Try living in Sydney for 10+ years an you might get it. Especially in the early days with no foxtel and FTA only showing the Swans, or the Tigers 3 times a year starting at midnight.

Cunning buggers too. Whenever I use my Interstate membership to get a ticket to a Swans game I get a nice glossy promo for a 3 game Swans membership at the start of the next season. I assume you do too?

They are clueless ****wits. Been to many a game at the SCG and they are the most ignorant, foolish and idiotic excuses for supporters I have ever had the misfortune to see.

I feel for Port adelaide , they are on the cusp of the RFC era circa 1983 ......the club has been pillaged of quality people leaving them bereft Of the type of talent , vision and financial muscle to help navigate them through a competitive jungle. Te images of primus walking into the empty changeroom before the game was out was haunting

I feel for their supporters but i don't feel for the club. They were a mistake by the AFL. A big fat mistake. Let's put a 2nd team Adelaide and name them after the most polarising most despised club in the city. Even in acity of a million people, you aen't going to have much support on a countrywide scale. Big, big mistake.

Put it this way with Port Adelaide. They are/were the most popular team in the SANFL, but for every supporter that barracks for them, there are 10 that hate them with all their being and with every fibre of their body and soul.
In a city of 1.1 million people, let's assume 100,000 are too young to give a rat's.
Let's assume 100,000 don't give a toss. You'd be surprised, but not everyone in this county loves and breathes footy.
Let's assume 100,000 are too old to make any impact to crowd figures, membership sales etc.
That leaves 800,000 people who do care. 700,000 of those people hate Port Adelaide with a passion that we can never understand. The leftovers form very much a polarised, hated minority.
One of the AFL's big, big mistakes.
Which is a shame as I generally find Port Adelaide supporters to be genuinely good people who know their footy and also have that Richmond sense of realism when talking about their team. far better footy supporters than the made-up franchise of the Crows. There's just not enough of them to make an impact on a countrywide scale, let alone in a relatively small city.

Yeah possibly, remember though that PA wanted to enter the AFL prior to crows...you're right though, ports strength is their biggest weakness in terms of trying to develop their supporter base

Agree... some on hear will know I am a Tiger through & through... have been for over 40 years...

It's just the geography of where I live now and seeing a new club showing some pride and passion that I admire.

do you live out there roachy?...i once lived in west ryde, meadowbank back in '93...got a dreadful bout of homesick and ended back in Melb in '94

Any loss will see the bombers out . To think they were on top of the ladder 6-7 weeks ago :p
Stupid thing is, I'm not convinced about Adelaide and I wouldn't be surprised if Essendon beat them.

Bombers are really struggling ... Fletcher is out too apparently . Geography should decide that one
Come back to me tomorrow after the event. I have the Bombers in a nice multi that should pay very nicely thank you very...oh hang on, I had Brisbane as well...

LOL ... be honest ... who were you cheering for when they got within 14 ?
Richmond till I die.
Shut Mrs Tugga and little Tugga out of the loungeroom in the last quarter.
Will always love my club and will always want to win.

Could we see 3 Tigers with AA jumpers? Cotch, Lids and Mullet are probably locks for the 40 man squad, should make the 22.
Cotchin must make it. I don'tcare what anyone says.
Who does Maric have as opposition? Jacobs and Cox? Both probably just ahead of him. Will go close.
Deledio has been thereabouts for a few years now and has done his pennance. About time he gets picked.
