I think he did. Would be a nightmare for them.

Out of all the coaches who haven't said no, I would target Matthew Knights. Best developer of young talent left, Port are rebuilding with youth and he has coached at AFL level and now gotten Geelong to the VFL Grand Final. That experience of being around Geelong would have done him no harm at all.

Essendon supporters are moron's and won't have a good thing to say about him, but he did more good than bad despite pressure from ex Essendon players all over that rotten club.

I reckon knighter would be chewed up by the sa media. Ugly duckling coaches are never afforded any slack, last thing port need is a suspect coach in the hot seat. Ayres ticks all the boxes and would better withstand the crap that goes with the territory
