We should start this rumour based on Cloke's manager Ralph Carr being a former Carlton board member.

Heard an interesting rumour/story tonight, from a family member who used to be heavily involved in the media and was on the Richmond board, now he's quite low key but still in the know. Wouldn't usually post this sort of stuff, but seems pretty legit coming from this guy.

Apparently Cameron Cloke was playing the other week just in his local league, and the game finished, shook his opponents hand, having a chat and his opponent asked hows his brother and whats going on with him. Cloke said "a spanners been thrown in the works, Malthouse has rung him this week and said 'look don't sign anything, how would you feel about coming to Carlton next year?'".

Can see this being true, Cloke seems unlikely to stay, Malthouse seems likely to be in talks with Carlton. Malthouse was very popular with the players including Cloke. Why not?

Anyways take it as you wish, just thought I'd inform you all.

Has he won a coleman? norm smith?brownlow? is he a born leader (next captain).$1 mil for 5 years for what, he is a very good player (no one in their right mind could doubt that) in an excellent side with a supreme midfield, and is supported up forward by dawes and a very good resting ruckmen. Is there any link in the drop of form with the changes in the forward set up, no brown? 1 big body missing up forward and an increased workload for Jolly and Dawes.

It's a nice thought to go after a big name, but we need a young CHF & FF to take us for the next decade, not just a money grabber who in 3 years will probably be spent and then we have 2 years to honour.

Well Malthouse is a logical choice for most clubs to chase as he has proven that he has what it takes to 1 build a list and 2 win premierships. He isn't coaching. If I was running a business or a football club and someone with expierence and a record of being top notch was unemployed I would be onto it.

Two things, we should be onto it, it is common sense. What won't happen is Malthouse coming to Carlton mid season because he has media commitments and contracts, not to mention we at least owe it to Ratten for what he has done. What makes sense is quietly making an unofficial agreement with Malthouse so that Malthouse has time to assess our list and time to make plans for recruiting and preseason as well as the alleged Cloke deal. Also we don't want any of the football department knowing this is going on, it would make a meal of this season just in case we are planning to tank or if we are genuine with giving Ratten and Co a chance. I hope the Cloke/Malthouse thing does eventuate, it would be brilliant for the club, the results we get and the membership drive.

I will consider him for 800k as quality keyforwards are a rare get. He comes from stock that has shown longevity and he does not miss too many from injury. Even if you had to give him 5yrs he would still be younger than what Matthew Pavlich is now.

Heres an idea pick up Silvagni for free in the draft then trade Lucas to Wet Toast in return for Kennedy as it was reported that he never wanted to leave. Get Fevola back but store him in a cage between matches, send Ratan off to learn coaching at Carlton Primary school and get Mathouse in for a few years so he can teach SOS to coach then put a lake near the interchage bench so Blue Lagoon Bootsma feels at home.

Seriously, if you think Travis Cloke is overrated you know nothing about football. If anything he's underrated. He won a Best & Fairest at 21. He is an unparalleled contested mark. He might miss the occasional goal but his work rate is off the chart and I'm fairly certain we haven't seen his best yet. And he's only 25.

The benefit of having Cloke straighten up our forward entries would be enormous. I'm not saying we're any chance of getting him, but to call him overrated is simply absurd.

I forget he is 25, he seems to have been around forever. My concern with cloke is, and as it was with Judd (dont get me wrong, I would not change having his quality at Carlton) is that these huge figures spent on one player is a huge strain on the rest of the salary cap, at 800k do you think Collingwood would let him go?

only 25? Doubt he will get better. I feel esp if he goes to freo will be slower, less hungry and well I say he has peaked
