Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
i would be willing to trade both (even tho i love both) to often we assume a young player will be a superstar.
Travis Cloke is a excellent fullforward, bootsma is a promising young player who has the potential to play wing, hff, hbf or at best in the middle.
our time is in the immediate future not when bootsma is 24 at the prime of his career.
I don' t think we will get cloke but if the choice was leak a couple decent young prospects for a ready made marking machine.... well you do the maths.

What TTB meant to say was ..... is kidding themselvesAnyone who thinks we can win a flag without a power forward/marking target is a flaming idiot.
It would be ridiculous to trade bootsma, especially if he didnt want to leave. The Kid is special.. could nay should have gone higher in the draft
For another dozen weeks anyway.McLean is being paid $400 000 pa isnt he?
Casboult, Rowe, Mitchell, Waite. With Watson developing ok, add Henderson to the list.Anyone who thinks we can win a flag without a power forward/marking target is a flaming idiot.
We showed everyone that we don't need him. No doubt he has talent, but are u willing to squeeze out someone like bootsma or Watson next year to pay him. I am not. If he didn't demand so much coin, sure. But we would see the repercussions from the start. And it wouldn't just be 1 year of losing good players, it would be 5. If we don't win a premiership in the first few years, the domino effect would be catastrophic. There is a reason collingwood aren't budging. Take heed.

Cloke is overpriced. Or maybe he just has underwhelming performances against us.![]()
Thanks, numbers.Always keep an eye out for your posts AZ.![]()

I would love to see us develop our own and save some money at the same time. Why gamble?
Cas 0 games
Rowe 0 games
Mitch 0 games
Waite always injured (Now it is THE BACK!)
Watson required Defender
Hendo required Defender (with swing capability)
I think Cloke is the biggest opportunity since Juddy was available (prefer him to Goddard)

As pointed out above - Sans injuries or sickness to Rowe/Waite/Casboult/Mitchell and now Henderson/Hampson means six potential tall targes have not been available - a very rare and very difficult to plan for sad fact.
Leaving aside the silly money Cloke is asking for - imagine the set back of paying up and then seeing him cop a serious injury(ies) and being effectively worse than useless?
This is mega risk on a grand scale IMHO.
Everyone at the Club I am sure would love a tall marking forward -eg Judd/Ratten have said same in public commentary over the last two weeks - but we seem to have won the lottery in bad luck regarding injury to talls this year. Waite's injury has been especially cruel.
You would not be saving some money - you have to spend your salary cap. If eg Warnock was traded and McLean is on a reduced contract - there is the extra money you need for Cloke
This applies to every star - Juddy, Ablett etc. It did not seem to enter into our thoughts when giving Waitey his 3 years. Cloke like his old man - seems pretty strong and durable
Agree with the view about risk of injury. However lets not forget that Judd was bought in to lead a young developing team and Captain - like Ablett @ Suns. The midfiled is where you manufacture the ammunition to load those tall guns up front. Also Agree again on the money issue - Warnock and a lower Mclean price tag almost get us there anyway. Waite's cost is probably less than many imagine isn't he a vet now anyway? So yeah the money is probably there and a Cloke sponsor could no doubt be found anyway.
I doubt that he is as good as Judd for us right now - but even that possibility combined with the absolute frenzy of angst it would cause at the Wobblers might be worth the ask. Who would their midfield have to kick to? Yeah I can see the attraction and the merit AND the fun of it.
I suspect though that his signing is all about ( maybe ) what and where Micky Milkshake goes to. Machiavelli might see Micky Milkshake appointed as Director of Coaching, Player Development and List Management - in order to secure that package. Cloke wouldn't be the only 'loosey' in FIGJAM's lot.
Id love to see malthouse in a director of coaching role etc. As its not a role that would grab him i wonder how much cash it would take to make that job attractive. Probably the best case scenario in terms coaching movements at years end.

Can't believe the suggestion to off load Bootsma!!!
The math is we probably lose 2 decent players a year to pay him. He is good, but this would be a cancer throughout our club.
Please point out to me where someone suggested we trade him.
