Who stops Mitchell ?? He has been racking them up. Surely we don't let him just do his own thing ??
Good point.

Lock down on Mitchell & hawks lose the Guy who sets up most of their play.

Douglas?

this has the makings of epic... ANZAC - the last post, national anthem, Friday night lights. if the boys are indeed destined for greatness... it will show this Friday... it's time to put the old war horse to bed...Get the job done!

Hank summed up the semi final loss perfectly - smashed in uncontested possession and 131 marks to 69. They simply cut us up with their footskills. We didn't have the discipline to pressure the kicker or to stay close enough to the receiver. They did as they pleased. Can't give them easy leading options to hit. Great test of our defensive skills.

Campo also shat himself. Played an extra defender in Q1. We got quite a few (hurried) centre clearances in the first quarter. They all ended up with Grant Birchall who had 14 possessions by quarter time. Game over after 30 minutes. Hope Pyke shows more courage.

I think you have pointed out the main diff between 2015 Crows and 2016 Crows right there. Our outside game last year was woeful. We concentrated too much and put too much emphasis on the inside contested ball. This year seems a lot different to me. We are happy to break even or just lose the contested possession count for a better outside game.

Basically it means if we are getting more outside ball we are controlling the game more and keeping it out the Hawks hands. This is where we will win the game.

do we shut down Mitchell or shut down his options?
Mitchell as he is the architect of most of their plays.

Won't necessarily reduce his possession count by much, but have him under pressure, so his disposal isn't as effective.

If our midfield (still our weakness) contests and runs for as long and as hard as it did against Sydney we will win. Our forward line is dominant.

Hawks lift though. They do it very often. At the MCG, it's Hawthorn by 21.

Yeah Mitchell needs to be sat on this week, considering he's not that quick, wonder if Thommo could do the job? Thommo has a great tackle and a big body. Worried that Dougy might get shaken off and we need Sloane winning ball.

No for Thommo. Not his strength at all, we need him to win the ball and feed it outside

I'd be happy for Douglas to go to him and make Mitchell accountable defensively too

fair enough - who is the orcs weak link? who do we cover last?

Hartung, Langford, Howe

Mitchell undoubtedly has to be shutdown, 31 handballs last week setting up the play Thommo/Sloane/Douglas has to be attached at his hip. I'm leaning towards a Douglas matchup, his ability to drag Mitchell and make him accountable on the rebound defensively will only work wonders.

I'm backing our mids at the contest Mrouch/Sloane/Thommo contested ball beasts getting to the outside Smithers/Atkins/Seed to set up the play to the best forward line in the comp. Locking the ball in we will have a few 'junk' goals out the back but that's the risk we take with this Pyke era attacking gameplan.

If we repeat our pressure from last week, showing a physical presence (not getting bent over like last years SF) hard at the ball and pressuring the Hawthorn ball carrier I'm backing us to come home with the choccies.

Eddie to turn around his hawks form and kick a handful
Crows by 11

I'm pretty sure only 1 game per state gets the Anzac day treatment

First game at the 'G for me in years, so effing pumped!
... Except I'm there with a Hawks supporter.

Over the past five years we've had a carton on every match... Bloody expensive friendship for me, although I get my own back by refusing to buy him anything but Coopers; the the only win I've been able to scrounge for SA so far...

Please, please, PLEASE boys, get the job done!! I know he'll buy me some shitty Melbourne Bitter and I DON'T EVEN CARE!!! #weflyasone

Hawthorn fans really annoy me for some reason. Maybe it's just because in large numbers the brown and gold army looks like a big pile of human excrement.

Maybe it's just because they are so damn good.

I can't put my finger on it. But whenever I meet a Hawthorn supporter he's always a prick.

I've got a bad feeling about this game...

I was reasonably positive going into the Swans game. I thought we had 3 key factors in our favour:
  • Adelaide were clearly in good form.
  • We finally had a game plan that would trouble the Swans.
  • The game was being played on our home deck.
Only 1 of those factors holds true against Hawthorn - we're still in good form.

Right now, Hawthorn are a sleeping giant, just rolling along in cruise control. They're doing enough to win games against the lesser sides, and not wasting one more joule of energy than they have to. However, when a team comes along that has delusions of grandeur, they wake up and squash them like a bug. Take their response to the Weagles as a prime example. It's about maintaining the mental dominance over the rest of the competition - reminding everyone else that they're the King of the Jungle, and making sure that everyone else has the mindset that they're the underdogs.

There is no doubt that Adelaide have a much better game plan this year. It's still not going to trouble the Hawks. Our plan is very similar to the Weagles - no surprise, given where Pyke was working last year. The Hawks have smashed the Weagles in their last 2 encounters. They know how to beat it and they have the personnel to do it.

Unfortunately, I see the "real" Hawthorn turning up this Friday. If that happens, Adelaide will get blown off the park.

My tip: Hawthorn by 40.

How many goals? Must be getting close to 150.
127.53 in 49 games

I think Modra was the only player to have a better average in his first 50 games

(just checked jarman, who would have been the only one to have come close, he got 97 in his first 50)
