good movie, but on a serious note who is absolutely not expendable as trade bait?

i say

M. Lloyd
S. Lucas
S. Gumbleton
P. Ryder
L. Jetta
A. Davey
M. Mcveigh
B. Houli
D. Fletcher

these players either represent our future or are essendon clubmen through and through!

Any player over 26 is automatically tradeable, if the right offer is made. Being a 'clubman' simply increases the price. I find it funny Houli and Jetta are off limits, but Dempsey and Hislop aren't.

I would have thought the only ones off the table would be Gumby, Ryder, Laycock and Neagle (i.e. the young talls). The ones who aren't 'off limits' but who are very unlikely to be valued by an opposition team more than Essendon are:

Stanton, Watson and Winderlich. The young proven mids in other words.

All our draft selections from the last two years are off limit's as far as i'm concerned. Also McVeigh, Lucas and Laycock. See something special in him. As for most others ( and I will probably cop some s**t for this ) I would consider to trade if the right option was presented. It's time for some harsh calls to be made at Windy Hill.

the players i included as clubmen were lloyd, lucas and fletcher and i included them purely because they are true red and black champions and deserve to play out their careers at essendon

mark mcveigh is just a star and future captain IMO

agreed on stanton, watson. not so much winderlich, he is too quick for his own good and misuses the ball.

what would you guys want for Angus Monfries?

Monfries would be pretty valuable IMO. He didn't come on as well as some would've hoped this year, but he certainly showed a bit in his time in the midfield. He is also hard at the ball, which is something our midfield is lacking. I dont think his trade value would be equivalent to his value to the club, which makes it unlikely for him to be traded. by this I mean that other clubs may see him as only a 2nd round pick but we would be mental to trade him for that.

Jetta and Houli can definitely be traded if the right deal comes along.
Davey too but I want to keep him.

Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher, McVeigh, Gumby, Ryder could be traded but only if another club approached us with an offer we couldn't refuse. I wouldn't trade any of them unless

Leigh Matthews - "We'll give you Jon Brown for Gumby."

akingofkong - "Nah, sorry. Gumby is untouchable."

Get real.

You could say that about anyone Longy...

"We'll give you Jon Brown for ________." <--- Instert name here.

Except Lloyd or Fletcher, because what they have done for our club and what they are doing now, goes beyond their playing abilities.

Which means everyone else is, for the right deal, on the market.

Anyone with sense: "Sorry, he is the captain of our club, in the top 10 goal kickers ever, and is not available for negotiation."

Seems you cant do it for everyone.

Everyone has a price, if J. Brown was offered think of it as a business deal,
a young superstar that can change the game on his own boot.. for our aging superstar..
the only reason any of the deals will not happen would be because of the backlash from fans...

Yes, but not for Lloyd or Fletcher.

The intangibles are far greater with those two than anyone on our list.
The impact on trading either of those two would have huge ramifications on the remainder of our list, regardless of who was coming in.

You don't trade club champions. The rest are up for grabs.

I don't think Lucas is held in the same esteem as the other two.

Fletch and Lloyd are in our best 25 players of all time. (I realise Fletch wasn't name a Champion of Essendon but if it was done now he would be).

Scotty Lucas isn't an out and out Champion of the club. He'll be someone that will go down in the record books as a bloody good footballer. The other two will be remembered among the best.

Scotty Lucas for Jon Brown would be seen as a damn good upgrade. Traded one of the other two and you'd be tearing at the heart strings of the club.

JJ was almost traded last season but Saints wouldn't give us what we wanted.
