... the worrying ageing Carlton list. Is it really a 'reset' for the 'baby blues'?

Carlton were really, really impressive. For where Carlton are at now

With the talk of a Carlton 'reset', it is a bit surprising the baby blues fielding a far older side the Richmond.

Simpson (31)
Walker (29)
Jamison (29)
Rowe (28)
White (28)
Everitt (27)

Is not as young a side as the media is alluding to. Will these players be part of a the next Carlton flag?

They don't actually have many kids in their side. Most of their new pick ups are mature age players from other clubs. Phillips, Lamb and Wright.

They had about 4 promising kids out there tonight, and a lot of developed, mediocre players: Everett, Casbault, Rowe, Lamb, Wright,

Yeah I'm not really sure where they are at.

the are at having an elderly list... might need a retirement village sponsorship. My worry is Jamison, Simpson are still very good players, for carlton standards. what happens when the retire in 12-24 months? The other side of the coin, they are still carrying rather unimpressive players getting close to 30 years of age (for afl standards); White, Rowe

perhaps why bolton is going strong with the 'reset' rather than 'rebuild' terminology? shades of terry wallace doing the half rebuild at richmond instead of the full turn over of the list. Which, to be fair might have worked if Browns leg did not fall off

Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow will get games later in the year you suspect. Getting games into their future spine is important; Mckay, Curnow, Weitering, Plowman. Quality.
Kreuzer and Phillips are quality rucks that will be a round for at least another 5 or 6 years.
Midfield is the interesting one. Murphy is getting older and his disposal was awful last night, not the class player he once was. Gibbs was good however. Cripps the future. Kerridge is a good fourth young mid. I worry about their depth in talent in this area however going forward, only Graham looks much at all. Docherty will be a very good half back, but they will need to spend a few draft picks on mids in the next couple of years to really get their list moving forward.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Rowe, White or even Jamison (unfortunately) from that highlighted group.

Walker has been playing with a bad knee for 2 years now. Has had a very quite pre-season to give him every chance.

Simpson can go for another couple of years, at the least.

'recycled'

You do realise we have 3 more first round draft picks to blood and we moved 15 players on at the end of last year right?

9 point loss to a

top 4 aspirant

Rebuilds don't mean getting rid of every player over 25.

The fact remains Carlton fielded a side 3-4 kgs heavier, more than a year older, and with ten or so more games experience all on average. Than a Richmond side that apparently is now 'mature' according to the media gurus

And the list still looks rather shambolic.

Where are Carlton at?

His disposal efficiency was 81.5% last night. Not sure what game you were watching.

You can't just throw out every older player at once, it's a process.

Over the next few years Carlton will be culling players that aren't going to be part of their next Premiership side but you can't do it over the space of one off season, those players have to be replaced and it's going to take multiple drafts to do that.

Seems like a bit of a deflection thread to me.

Bolton has only had one off-season so far to try and clear out Malthouse's dead wood. And it's only Round 1. Far too early to write off a side.

Just be grateful your side banked the 4 points and move on.

Indeed, cause they would of got pantz if not for the leadership of

Simpson
Walker
Jamison

types

by then Gibbs, Murph and co. would of hung up the boots perhaps?

A worrying conundrum for the hobbit Brendon Bolton.

Way to throw the diversion out there from how pitiful Richmond were.

The carlton players you have listed aren't massively pivotal to carlton becoming better anyway , id assume they need to replace a few of those by seasons end anyway

Jamo , Simpson and Everitt are the three I would keep on

Gee whiz, look at some of the garbage from other clubs Richmond has picked up in the past few years. You had 2 players of note missing and were made to look ordinary by this same, worrying, ageing list.
Yes, we all know that ladder positions are pretty much set after the first round.
I imagine Richmond won't win a game for the rest of the year, apart from maybe against Essendon.

incorrect. Richmond were terrible. no diversion required

you can make another thread and i will discuss it at length there is you so wish

this is a conversation in regard to the carlton list make up

please try and stay on topic

White and Rowe are very replaceable players. Once some of the younger boys develop those two will not get games.

Plowman and Jakesh to come in for those 2
you would think.

The reset is as much about changing the culture of the club than anything.

Also based on what we saw last night you would think at best we may win 6-7 games
which would still mean a top 5 pick (to go along with the Geelong first rounder we get) so it's not like we are sacrificing our future.
