The "Worst Australian" is still pumping Ben Cousins as the sublime leader at West Coast. I can't dispute his football ability but his off field performance is nothing short of disgraceful. West Coast supporters would have you believe that his "Run Ben Run" performance was his only brush with convroversy, how wrong, blind and ignorant can they be?

Cousins has been punished for what he did. Farmer should have been cut from the Fremantle List for what he did.

Chick wasn't convicted, there was allegation made and a restraining order applied for. If he was found guilty of assault I would have no time for him either and yes he should be delisted.

The Worst knows what sells papers.

In the first place there are the one-third* of the state's population who are Freo fans buying the paper to find out how deep the poo is that Captain Golden-Boy has landed himself in this time around. The two-thirds* that constitute the weevil-loving populace, buy the paper much the same way people stop to look at a car accident. It really is horrifying for them, yet they can't seem to drag themselves away from taking a closer look.

They are, for the majority, indignant and disappointed that BBB could bring such an air of disrepute down upon their "highly professional" club, and they voice this. The Gardiner situation exacerbates their discontent... and The Worst runs with it.


Then the tide of public sympathy begins to turn (among the weevils). Booze-Bus Benny is no longer the Bad Guy, but is the unfortunate victim of a media beat-up and they get angry. Had Juddy accepted the captaincy from the outset, and had the e-girls players not publicly stated they were still behind BBB, the supporters probably would have been sated by the club's / BBB's actions and they may have moved on. But no, Judd doesn't want the job, BBB is endorsed as the "real" leader, and to top it off, he plays a pretty good game in a team that was soundly spanked.

The Worst then realises that the two-thirds* of the state who are weevil-lovers may not turn out to buy the paper on Monday to read how woeful their team was, and how "on" Freo looked... especially after the hammering they've been giving BBB. So, to satisfy both, they write up Freo as looking pretty good, but the real hero of the day was Cap'n Benny, who despite adversity displayed his outstanding attributes as player and leader to be his side's best in a less than average outing. Voila. We buy the paper cos we won, they buy the paper cos BBB is still their hero.

He said that a bloke can be a senior player without being an "example setter". If he meant something else - and for his sake, you'd hope he did - he should have typed it.

Just make sure that you tell all those kids running around with 33 on the back of their Dockers jumpers that they're not allowed to pay attention to their hero, because he's not a designated or authorised "example setter".

All players need to set the right example, more so the captain however because not only does he need to set an example for all his fans, but he needs to set the standard on and off the field for all of his team mates!

Players from both our western teams have done stupid things, however, I for one am grateful that they haven't done anything like some of the eastern states players. Not sure if I could continue to follow a club like the Saints after the alleged rape allegations if I was one of their supporters!
