Sounds more like territorial tribalism then....If the newbies thumb their noses at needing the locals acceptance & are self-sufficient & competent enough, then it simply doesn't work....As the smarter one's will ascertain quickly enough.

Besides....Broken Hill is a complete provincial shit-hole entirely.....So anyone with a grain of talent, sense or intellect wouldn't hang about there for too long anyhow.

I was taking the piss a bit with that last part but clearly you aren't... I guess it is true about what they say about people from away looking down on everyone else!

Also that's objectively false.

Well it wasn't really.

The main guy walked in and the mechanic with the throat cancer has his back to him with his shirt pulled up and his little girl helper (daughter) is down on her knees in front of him, and he's like what the ****, they turn around and she was feeding him through his stomach tubes.

Still deemed a bit much for the telly.

Pfft.

No film is pushing boundaries anymore, it's just tasteless shock value.

Remember in the 70s there was a time when porno was mainsteam. It's highly unlikely society will ever be back there. We are in the midst of a strong conservative puritanical resurgence and we will be stuck in it for a long time because this time, the 'progressives' are onside.

Boundaries have already been pushed. It's a matter of getting them back in to the public acceptance, without shaming, which isn't as much to do with the film itself. I like old fashioned movies, with violence and nudity and laughs that most importantly make other people laugh and appeal to the senses of escapism and fantasy. Heaven forbid now you want to see a hot chick take her clothes off now or your a pervert, or if you want to see consequence of action like blood or gore, you've got mental issues.

As I have said, in a doco about old Aussie cinema, a lady remarks 'it was liberating and empowering to be nude'. Now it is considered the opposite and it's empowering for women to refuse nudity, which is fine, to each their own, but where exactly are we going? It may seem forward but to me those values are more in line with the 1950s. Personal choice is being eroded (See: Grid Girls) and people are still being pressured to make a decision in a certain way, even if it's the opposite way to what it used to be, and as I have also said recently, look at the old Indiana Jones flicks. Pretty violent and visual, they leave the MCU movies of the same ratings for dead.
