Things that appear inevitable

I think that 25-30 years from now "You actually went into the city every day to do your work?" will be the equivalent of the millenials' "What did you do in an office all day before computers and the internet?"

It seems that a lot of people spend two hours a day in transit, five days a week when they could easily work remotely 3-4 days each week just because "That's the way we've always done it".

I'd estimate conservatively that 80% say 'ex cetera', yet it gets hardly any of the rage that other well known butcherings receive. 'Hence why...' is another good one. I wonder what those people actually think 'hence' means.
I reckon 80% is very conservative. I think it's closer to 99%! I almost faint when I hear someone say it correctly because it doesn't happen very often at all, yet when I was a kid I distinctly remember it being written and pronounced correctly. Something happened that caused a shift at some point and now saying it incorrectly is just the norm.

In my opinion, as with all the equivalents: the ratios of using and digesting the written language, compared to the spoken language (especially without the benefit of a spellcheck) is out of whack. It's like 'defiantly' instead of 'definitely': you'd think if people still did 'have a go' and wrote a word how they thought it sounded in primary school, they'd quickly see something wrong with that misspelling. You might get 'definately' or 'defanitely', but 'defiantly' isn't how it sounds. But 'defiantly' happens to be an English word, so spellchecks don't pick up on the mistake.

There's probably equivalents and it is US English, but I've always found this to be a fantastic resource.

Eddie McGuire becoming Prime Minister of Australia

We could do, and have done, worse. At least he's a republican. And has made something of himself without coming from wealth. We don't need more IR lawyers and religious fundies representing the masses.

He would be a sneaky politician though. He's very good at presenting things that benefit his interests as benefiting the greater good.

Australia never having a proper Test opener after Uzzie gives it away (in 10 years at this rate)
Thanks to modern bats, T20, and just changing methods a "proper" Test anything is in its final days. Even if Tests survive, and they probably will longer than 50 over games, they won't be played with the techniques and approaches we knew as orthodox and "proper". Pity.

Test cricket is kept alive here by the Ashes and to a lesser extend the Border-Gavaskar trophy. England's competitiveness coupled with our inability to bat in swing or spin friendly conditions makes winning those series a real challenge. We're also pretty tactically inept a lot of the time which is funny.
