Hey guys,

Going to Melbourne next year in February to see Ac/dc with a few mates for 5 days or something, just wondering what are a few things to do whilst there during the days.

Few ideas I've come up with are Tour of the brewery, Mcg/etihad tours perhaps, not sure if the races are finished up by then?, Casino, Phillip island, weribee zoo...

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys

AC DC are playing at Eithad so the place will be in partial lock down so a tour may not be worth the money as you can see the joint when you get inside.

Take a City Circle tram ride around the city. Its free and gives you commentary.

Check out the King Street nightlife.

See if you can get a concert at Rod Laver arena and have a look around there, home of the Australian Tennis Open.

Maybe check out the new soccer stadium just down from Olympic Park.

Go to the Eureka Sky Deck and walk on the glass floor looking down some 88 floors...

Mt Dandenong for views of the SE suburbs and the city, rainforest and devonshire teas. Or try The Cuckoo for lunch.

Go check out the surf of the Mornington Peninsula or Great Ocean Rd.

Yarra Valley for winery trips

Do a Port Phillip Bay fishing trip preferably one going through the heads. If you are down that way check out Point Nepean National Park too.

Melbourne Museum & special exhibitions

Old Melbourne Jail- think Ned Kelly

Visit the new Arden Street facility and marvel at the premiership cups.:thumbsu:

Visit the Roo Shop and buy heaps of cool stuff.:thumbsu:

Put on all your newly purchased North gear, slip down to the Leveson and have a pot with Corey McKernan.:thumbsu:

For a cultural experience different to Chinatown, Victoria St or Lygon St, head on down to Main St in Frankston. On second thought, maybe just drive through on the way to the beach :D

As Wally suggested, if you want to do some charity work please visit Nth Melb.

St Kilda is worth a look for the nightlife and a walk along the promenade with your lucky lady admiring the bay navigational lights, views of the city and ofcourse St Kilda itself. Just be careful, St Kilda is a little dodgey once the lights go out.

from a regular visitor:
- MCG tour is worth it. 100%, i have done it about 4-5 times and love it.
- there'll be races on, not the spring carnival but if you want to go to the races they'll be on maybe at sandown?
- Melbourne zoo itself is pretty good to go to if you can't get to werribee and handy for a half day trip or so.
- casino is always worth it for a beer or two and dinner if you cant be stuffed going anywhere else - try the pub at crown, steakout or the foodhall.
- worth going down to st kilda for a look at least, have lunch and a beer or so
- try the jail, i went for the first time last year and enjoyed the experience
- the markets in north melbourne are worth a look, also see the ones on southbank on a sunday morning IIRC
- federation square is worth a bit of time - art galler, ACMI and bars and food.
- eureka is worth a look but i always like going to the rialto as well (and its cheaper!)

To orientate yourself get the "melbourne in ...." guides from the airport or the skybus when you get in and catch the city circle tram around the CBD after you get to yr hotel.

Boys trip? Mens Gallery, Goldfingers, Bar 20... find 'em on King St.

The "jail" mentioned above is the Old Melbourne Gaol, tourist attraction. It is quite good and within the CBD (fringe, Russell St).

Bikes can be hired down at the Yarra and you can ride quite far up the river, to a place called Dwight Falls if you're keen (path alternates river banks).

The Cuckoo has deteriated in quality over the last few years. Was very dissapointing last time I went. There's a pie shop somewhere in there (can't remember exactly where) which has a wide variety of great pies.

there are some good idea's above l have been to the old Melbourne coal on Russell st make sure you get a tour there.and the city tram is also good and its free l went to the aquarium but is over rated.l would say go to costco but you have to buy a membership if look up the thread about Melbourne's hidden bars you will find some great places to have lunch and a drink or 2.and there might be a one day or 20/20 match around that time and check out little italy it's a lane it kinda like walking thou a euro street/lane.l dont know the real name of the lane but someone will.

Mornington Peninsula has some awesome beaches, also Phillip island is really really nice, great ocean road is pretty good.
Closer to the CBD, Melbourne zoo is alright, aquarium not bad, dont do a tour of the dome, MCG alot better.
Melbournes the best place :thumbsu:

Take your shoes off and see if u can run the whole length of StKilda beach without getting stuck with a needele! :thumbsu:

Hire a car, grab a map and tour last years bushfire zone. Head up thru Kinglake, Flowerdale, Yea, Alexandra, Buxton and into Marysville. Will take a full day with plenty to see.

If you have a spare time and the weather is right... go see the london bridge and other such stuff on great ocean road. It's not a bad look. Great pictures to bring back. It's a full day trip though.

Eat at Hardware lane in the city (or lygon st), but Hardware lane is easier to get to.

Haven't done this myself but I'd imagine it would be an interesting site to photograph (respectfully). Obviously a very sad memory for many. But from the ashes rise the phoenix.

1. Rialto & Eureka Observation Decks
2. Old Melbourne Goal
3. Melbourne Museum
4. Shrine of Rememberance
5. Botanic Gardens
6. Fitzroy Gardens (incl Cooks Cottage)
7. Melbourne Zoo
8. Lygon Street Carlton
9. Southbank
10. Docklands

I would recommend hiring a bike near Southbank, and riding down St Kilda Road (Melbourne is bike friendly) to St Kilda, and ride around the Bayside areas along the cycle tracks.
