Ok, so it was bad tonight, but just a few things we learnt that might help us this year and in the future;

* Unless we have most of our best 22, we arent competitive
* Wellingham is not a tagger (dont know what else he is)
* Toovey is in our best 22
* Reid is in our best 22
* Beams is our best 22
* Presti is Wakelin of last year, done us proud, but is almost finished
* The jury is still out on Jack Anthony

WE ARE STILL 2-3 YEARS OFF A PREMIERSHIP TILT.

Anything I missed?

Our Clearance Work is a Joke

We Need a Ruckman Bryan is Usless and Wood is not much better then Stretch

Need to put in a Effort

Need to Stick our Tackles

Could be a Long Season

Bryan lays better bumps then half our side

My god harry and heath are important, please someone tell me why our forwards continue to lead into each others space?

Also we suck balls at zone football, kick long, play with a man we look okish

Also don't bloody Flood

Dave one preseason game, doesnt mean shit at least no injuries.

In any case Bryan played better then wood, please dont stick useless next to bryan at least he cared wood didnt

no trolling here, but you guys have a lot to look forward to this year. One bad game against the best team in the comp. I am sure you guys will be very competitive this year.

the only thing that i am unsure of is your decision on captain....surely pendlebury or lockyer would have been a better choice??

We need to GTFOver this NAB Cup shit & focus on the real stuff that actually counts.

...Kick better

...Not play Geelong anymore (unless they're playing badly)

...stop ****ing turning it over

....

I've learnt not to wear my guernsey (I haven't worn it all nab cup until tonight)

Stop eating our own, it's only pre season.

We had a Chance to win something and we put in a Pretty Weak Effort

I stick with my Thing about Bryan but looks like Wood will not get much better and Looks like was a Mistake to Trade for Wood and Won't be Suprised if Keeffe goes past him by next season

HA HA his last 3 games has really turned me off him, Needs to come good soon or he could become a VFL Player for the season

The main thing our guys would have realised after tonight is our defensive intensity and pressure on the man, it was there in the first quarter and we looked right in it.
However after that it was not there at all and hence Geelong ran amok, offensively players were not prepared to run or create an option and that is why we kicked to so many contests.
I know its only pre season and i for one dont really care until the real stuff begins but the fact IMO 3/4 of the side didnt do the hard disciplined things after 1/4 time really did not look good and i hope the guys learn a lot from this.

We learnt our midfield problems are still enormous.

Cox is worth pursuing with, Wellingham is not close yet (but to be fair Swan and the rest of the mid brigade wasn't much chop), Our backline did prety well under unrelenting pressure and many goals from Cats mids, Maxwell was farely useful in the middle to give some modicum of intensity, maybe Daisy can go in your SC team.

I think we have a fair way to go and this was a great reality check. Still, I put us in the top 6 six still.

Best: Daisy, Cox, Pendlebury, O'bree, Clarke, Lockyer.

We are simply not good enough to be talking premierships any time soon. Our rucks and midfield are well below the required standard. Josh Fraser will improve us but we are still a 10 goal inferior side to both Hawthorn and Geelong.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned Dale Thomas.

For someone who is a supposed frontrunner he certainly did very well tonight.

He has been a standout over the NAB cup for me, doing far more running and link up work, and converting his set shots in front of goal.

We've learnt he has developed some more consistency imo.

We've learnt Toovey is in our best 22 at the moment on defensive value.

Bryan is the least intelligent footballer in the AFL.

Reid has potential down back. On the lead he is very very quick and gets a fist in. I saw potential in his field kicking too, there is a lot to work with there.

Beams is a star in the making. Clean hands, good kicking, throws himself at the ball relentlessly.

Agree Daisy was good and He could have a Big Break Out Year with his Constiency

Bryan is a moron mate, but right now as a player he offers us 100% more then wood.

Contests more, looks better forward, HOs basically same.

1. We're not going to win anything if we don't get the ball in the hands of our best players. Pendlebury, Didak, Davis, Medhurst, and Swan to an extent. Did they play tonight? Compare that to Selwood, Ablett, Bartel, Chapman etc.

2. We're not going to win anything if we don't look interested. I don't know if it was the coaching tonight, but the flooding we did was appalling, yet somehow they still had loose men everywhere. We were stuck in a half-flood, half-zone mindset that saw loose players streaming everywhere. We won last year because of hard, man-on-man pressure all the time. Tonight was the opposite, our hearts weren't in it.

3. We're not going to win anything if we don't have Fraser, O'Brien and Heath playing most of the year.Their absences were so obvious all night.

4. We're not going to win anything if we don't improve in the clearance department, quick-smart. We got absolutely pummelled here yet again, it was embarrassingly predictable every single stoppage. I don't really know what can be done - because we don't seem to have the cattle for it - but we're going to be exposed by the likes of Geelong, Hawthorn and Carlton if we don't change it.

5. Dale Thomas - you're a star. Beams - you didn't do much, but you're a future star. That's about it. Oh, and bring back Mick ASAP!

offensively players were not prepared to run or create an option and that is why we kicked to so many contests.

There weren't that many chances to create an option considering Geelong had most of it and our touches were often under enormous pressure. It wasn't as though we got a bunch of space to create from.

Our midfield (including ruck) is still the ultimate issue. I thought Bryan did well again, despite silly free against Selwood and stupid kick from goalsquare into Stokes. We've obviously dealt with this issue in recent recruitment, but we are still largely boys against men - in terms of body size, confidence and experience.

Our midfield is one of the worst in the competition, we consistently get smashed in the clearances, teams like Geelong get clear centre breaks contrasting with our clearances where we just bang it on the boot 90% of the time. Thank god we finally decided to draft some mids in Sidebottom and Beams but they are young and aren't likely to have a major impact in our midfield for a few years.

The most dissapointing thing for me about the whole NAB Cup has been the non-selection of Stanley, he excels at clearances and dominates at VFL level and just hasn't been given the opportunity. Even the Stanley haters could admit there would have been no harm in just seeing if he could do it at this level in the NAB Cup given we are lacking in clearance players. If he failed then fine, but it was the perfect opportunity to give him a go.

Anyone who bags our forwards tonight are kidding themselves, our midfield was absolutely smashed and our forwards were given no chance to do anything with poor delivery and limited opportunity.

Two of Bryan's errors directly resulted in 2 Geelong goals, he is just too damaging to the team.

Horrible game, but the real stuff is yet to start.

We learnt that Geelong will have a new found belief when they play us in round 3. But then again...we are up 10 points on aggregate in the last 2 games we've played against them :D
