I know the 2006 Pre-Season Draft is well behind us, and Malthouse and the recruiting staff obviously rated Iles and Toovey, but why in the blue **** didn't we pick up Brent Guerra?

He's young, quick enough, hard, finds the ball and has good disposal. He was an easy decision IMHO, but all the media were talking about was "were we going to trump the Bombers and take Camporeale?"

Surely we could have taken Iles in the rookie draft, and probably Toovey if we wanted to.

Bit harsh isn't it? He can get the footy and use it well, unlike half our list. And a little toughness never goes astray. Would you have Byron Pickett at the club, or Beau Waters? I know I would.

I'm not sure about that. If Tribunal appearances were the only reason we passed on Brent Guerra, surely we would have traded/delisted Brodie by now.

Becuase someone forgot to tell brodie during his football career, that agression is only good if you go for the contest (the ball) not the man. Not many players get suspended if they go for the ball and take out the man in the process!

Beau Waters is only feared because he's a clumsy idiot. I would love to have him in the team but he is no Byron Pickett, his hits on players are clumsy, stupid and dangerous.

I've never seen him win a hard ball get, he prefers to attack the man rather than the ball, as he's weak.

As for the question, I would have Byron Pickett. He knows how to play tough. He is a proven match-winner.

I was in favour of looking at him at the time because we need some aggression. He wouldn’t bee the worst player on our list. It’s not a decision that was ever going to make a great impact either way though.

Secondly i totally agree with the comment that we should have picked him up in the 06 draft. You cannot compare Brodies hit with half the hits Guerra lays. Brodie clearly hit the head of Monty whereas Brent usually hits the body. Ok so he has fronted the tribunal a few times but i think u'll find that none of these hits were intentionally high or malicious.

Because if we didn't pick Iles up, then we would have had to choose between Iles and Toovey in the rookie draft - We couldn't have taken both. Now, they may not look like much now, but they both have potential.

Even if they don't turn out, it was a fair enough decision to bank on young potential rather than a known player with his own issues.

Ohk sorry mate, Yes I agree you cant compare Brodies one hit to all of "Brents" hits

Agree with Vinnie (for once). Would have preferred to try out Toovey and Iles than Guerra.

Guerra's ok but we have a few of his type already and he would not have added much to our list as we have plenty of mid-aged and late aged midfield plodders already. A punt on a kid in this case was a much better choice than a player like Gueraa who will never get any better than he is today.

Twelve months down the track we have Medhurst now anyway, who is a far better small forward than Guerra and probably has more grey stuff between his ears, and he has more hair.
