He's an elite player of the competition. This sort of thing should be below him. It's not like a whole range of elite stars compete.

Perhaps he is the type of person that doesn't view things as being "below him". Doesn't seem like a bad trait to have.

Yeah, when he's done he can go and race the kids at the local primary school.

Yeah, when he's done he can go and race the kids at the local primary school.
Balancing his priorities this probably wouldn't get a look very often (but I'm sure he'd be happy to) but it staggers me you think running in the GF sprint is such a bad thing.

He clearly loves it, helps his profile and by extension that of the club.

No doubt we want him to be playing on that day instead - but he isn't so I really don't understand why you feel its such a negative thing.

Patrick Dangerfield will thankfully never be so full of himself that he won't participate in something for a lark, nor ever stop doing impersonations. It's what makes him who he is.

Do you want our players to revert to being "Crowbots"?
I think that it is very refreshing to have players showing some individualism such as Danger, Sloane, Tex etc

Yeah, it's a bit of a perception I've had. I like my star players / leaders / captains whatever else grumpy to some extent. Bit of a fan of the Allan Border/Steve Waugh model. Personally I'd like to see a few more of the Crows, especially the high profile ones, to be hurting because of our terrible performances. I want that glint in the eye. I don't want to see fiddling whilst Rome burns.

Having said that, I think I've completely turned around on the matter during this evening. Heard Danger on 5aa... it's my impression that a large part of the motivating factor is so he can be at the MCG during the grand final. To be a part of the atmosphere. That craving is something I can certainly appreciate and would encourage.

That and it's for charity, so I'd be a pretty big tool to maintain an objection.

Consider me placated.

Cool story.

I get the edge you're looking for - well expressed.

You make it sound like Australia's top sprinters aren't shit
Tim Leathart ran a 10.24 earlier this year, to rank 132nd in the world in 2013. Two other Australians, Joshua Ross and Mitchell Williams-Swain rank equal 146th this year with 10.25 seconds. Only 7 men have run sub-10 second 100ms this year.

To call our top sprinters 'shit' is wrong on so many levels. It is akin to the insensitive and short-sighted assessments of AFL footballers who don't make their team's top 25 as 'spuds'.

Not being funny, colloquial language aside, if our best sprinter is only 132nd in the world then Its an area we are mediocre in

Mediocre is a far cry from "shit" though.

Having several people with a world ranking places us squarely on the world stage. When you consider the size of our population compared to that of the world, having three people in the top 200 is punching well above our weight.

If you remove USA and Jamaica from consideration he's equal 70th this year.

Language aside, same thing.

Does a rating that low that count as a world ranking? Would you even qualify for a Grand Prix event

Why stop there? Lets remove a few more! :D

Gotta say, being serious for second, when I said I thought our sprinters were shit, I had no idea their rankings were so bad. The rankings you quoted were far, far, worse than I imagined.

Would they even qualify for funding?

I don't know for about funding for sprinting, but in squash, a top 200 ranking is certainly classed as a "world ranking" and the players receive funding from the squash body here in Australia.

But yes, if we're going to go with the (incorrect, in my opinion) theory that "medicore" is the same thing as "shit", then yes, our sprinters are shit.
