Rumour Tim Gossage on SEN - Pies Signed Fev for 12 Month

First, let me say I don't want Fev at the Club.

Though I can see the potential allure, i guess it's easy to dream about the pot of gold at the bottom of the garden.

I'd prefer a young kid, who might be the next Maxwell or Wellingham or Harry O

But, IF Fev made it to Pieland and if he stuffed up, I don't think it would damage our brand TBH.

I think everyone would just know Fev is Fev...and besides the Club would cut him straight away if he stuffed up...so the 'brand[' concern I don't think is in fact the major worry - It's more a wasdted opportunity to draft someone with a future.

I seriously think Fev's meaningful AFL days are behind him now.

My point was, surely our major sponsers would be seriouslly unhappy if we were thinking of taking fev? and they would have a huge say in the matter, we wouldnt take fev if it meant we lost a premier sponser

It's an interesting point re how the sponsors would feel if we took Fev.

I Guess IF we contemplated it, Eddie may perhaps bounce the idea off the major sponsors, though I suspect they'd back the club's judgment.

Sorry, I'd thought you were initially talking about how the sponsors would react if Fev stuffed up, rather than if we just picked him up.

Loving all the Fev lovers, hopeless fanboys with an addiction to quick fixes and pie in the sky dreams. Hey guys let me know if you want to buy some cheap absolute water frontage land that is high and dry at least one day in the year - going cheap.

If I go to the footy, I wanna be entertained by players with awesome skill, rather than perve @ the players - just saying.

I'd take him. Will be at the very least good depth and a realistic forward option. And to be honest at this stage I would rather take the punt on him for two years than take a punt on a kid that no one really wants with the slightest of chances that he is the next Harry O, Wellingham (cost us a million dollar sponsor), or Maxwell (no offense to previous poster).

2012 draft is to be a ripper so I'd take my punt on the young kids there.

How would Fev really de stabilize the club other than sleeping with another player's missus?

Pies giving up pick 50 for a dual coleman medallist who might get caught on the gas or having a punt (as long as it isn't on AFL) would be seen as "a chance that didn't work out". The reward far outweighs the risk. His last 2-3 years he has been carrying an on-going groin complaint.

Ever thought he could mess up with other players around him? Do that near finals time and you have every journalist and reporter hounding down the club and players until the story blows over. Some people thought the Malthouse scenario was a distraction.

The MM thing wasn't a distraction. That's just an excuse for the media to continue writing stories about it and a cop out for supporters. We made the GF, we weren't good enough when it counted on the day. How MM on the footy show or whatever had an affect on the players on Gf day is beyond me. MM wasn't responsible for Shaw and Maxwell, injuries, DT getting suspended etc Playing off for a premiership should be motivation enough to forget about the MM distraction.

Mess up? Let's look at recent history. Beams and McCarthy, Shaw and Maxwell, Didak, Shaw and Didak, Johnson and Tarrant, Cameron Cloke, Wellingham....

The club can handle the media attention. We will always cop the media attention. The players play for the biggest club in Australia. All the media and journos will be at the club if we are in the finals anyway.

The club is a tight unit. The players seem like a tight unit. Do you think that Fev, who would be there for less than a year, would really do much damage to the fabric of the players if he screws up? They will just crack the shits with him and he will be de-listed. The club will have Pert or Walshe do the interviews- they will say that he has "breached his contract but the club will continue to support Brendon through this tough time with Counselling" and then they will be following an ex-AFL player Brendon Fevola around for the interview.

For the position we are in now, he would add more value than a pick 50ish kid in a supposedly shallow draft that we have to pay for two years. We can offer Fev a one year contract and de-list him for another pick in the 2012 super draft if needed and look for a Wellingham, O'brien, Caff, Maxwell in the 2012 rookie draft. At least they will be more likely to come on.

You must'nt rate Collingwoods leadership or culture if you think Fev could have a detrimental impact

I rate the clubs leadership very high but i rate Fev's hideous influence even higher. The guy is quite simply a mess.

I'm sorry but no matter how you look at it, it was a distraction. Players continually asked, articles always being written, Malthouse himself being our coach doing a lot of interviews. Whether or not that effected the players on game day we don't know, but it effected them, the club and Malthouse himself during the week.

Yep, and out of those instances we lost a major sponsor, had the heat of the media multiple times and had to trade Tarrant away. You really think that the club was smooth sailing when all these things happened? Bring in one of the biggest media focussed player in the AFL and get him to stuff up, they'll be all over it. How many times was he in the media this year just for being spotted at the casino?

That's the problem with Fev, his team mates have always enjoyed being around him. With his history of screwing up added to the players you listed before already at the club, why would you want to risk it? It's not just Fev that could get delisted.

I guess we'll find out with Hine on draft day. If you think adding a screw up of a player for one year to the club when we don't even need him is a better option than selecting a kid who could be there 10+ years, I don't know, I think that's short sighted.

I doubt it will happen & he can't bring down the brand, he trangresses, he gets cut through. Sam Landsberger (sp) said on SEN that he believes Collingwood are the Top 8 side that spoke to him. Not fussed either way.

Will be interesting to look back on this post if we end up drafting him. Will it mean Buckley, Hine and co are just hopeless fanboys?

Okay legend I'll simplify.

It's a tongue in cheek comment.

We got beaten by a team who managed their players injuries/rests far superior and were the superior team on the day.

Anyone who thinks Fev is the answer to us losing the GF is gullible enough to buy land that's underwater.

Thanks sort of knew it was but didn't get it... Anyway I don't recall saying anywhere that if we had Fev we would have won the flag this season... What I'm saying is that if we have next year we will!

It's not short sighted. It's pick 50 not pick 10. In Fev we gain another KPF who is back up for Dawes and Cloke should one be out of form or injured. A player who could be called upon right away once he earns his spot and have an influence while we are fighting for another premiership.

The player we choose at pick 50 will not have the same effect as he would on the ground- in either the AFL or VFL. When it is well known that this draft is weak and the 2012 draft is very strong, we have more of a chance picking a talented 10 year player in 2012 at pick 50 and in the Rookie draft.

I would say that pick 50 is more likely to end up like a Stubbs, Farmer, Thoolen who will only last one year on the senior list before being delisted or put on the Rookie list.

His reports from Casey by officials are promising and he has even been credited with helping one of his team mates being signed by GWS.

Even if the 1% chance occurs, and we do get Fev in the draft, we won't be using our first pick on him (pick 50).

We would use our second pick at absolute best, why waste pick 50 on him, it's not like anyone else is going to steal him after pick 50.

If we pick him up, it will be with pick 65, with Witts taken at 67.

It does add a little bit of a positive to the "yes" argument, after all, by pick 65 in this draft, some teams will already be passing on selections or redrafting players they have delisted themselves.

I guess it depends on who is still there at 50 and if a player that Hine rates in the 30's slips to 50 (ala Fasolo last year). I'd take him at either pick though.

Just putting the pieces together, if the word was a recruiting manager spoke to his manager (no coach at the time)and what Pelchen is now saying that aints GF window is open and not necessary looking for youth (some things never change at aints) it's sounding more like it is them after FEV.
