Was our cleanest player today. Not that he had a lot of competition in that area but still....

****ing gun. Future star of the Comp. no reason he won't have a big impact this season.

I wish we had kept him down at the port..looking forward to watching him turn out with you guys.

Theres a current Murdoch paper article " Midfield bolter perfect for the Cats ' - re Kelly

Like to read it - tried about 4-5 interstate publications - but seems impossible - Subscibe only - does anyone know a loophole around that - probaly isnt - typical Murdoch he does things properly - unlike Fairfax who are accessible

Same boat, anyone know how to get access?

Copy and paste not working.

Lot to like about this guy , for a start that kicking action is a thing of beauty
Noticeably though his positioning was first class - very comfortable in traffic to either defend or break free to receive a handball or scoop up a loose ball. Really liked that aspect of his game :)
Early days but we could be onto something special here - no wonder the Eagles were gutted that we got him.

This is completely on OTT comparison based on little more than viewing 2 isolated section of play, but the way he hit the pack after a ruck contest at full speed, collected the ball and fired out the kick was very SJ like. Fast clean and hard.

Like I also said... OTT the only based on 2 centre bounces...

But damn impressive.

The Eagles could have picked him at 21 and didn't. Bad gamble on their part.

27 possessions on debut, including a goal to keep the dream for me alive in the 2018 Goal kicking competition!

Kelly ooked so poised today

He had that much impact in a game I felt at times he was a tiny bit short, either a tiny split second short of disposing of the ball or half an inch from getting the ball in dispute. Imagine when he's found the pace of AFL and actually hits those contests perfectly, will turn very good games into brilliant games and make a few midfields look stupid.
I'm a BIG fan.

"Keep" being the operative word. The WA sides will be in his ear constantly so it will be tough.

No doubt that will always be a risk given his family situation and hopefully we manage it well. Hopefully also if he does ever go home it'll be like with Hawthorn and Hill in that we've won three flags with him in the side first.

What a steal

I am still staggered WCE didn't take him at #21. I know Allen was very highly rated for his leadership as WA captain and workrate but they are well off for talls and given their midfield lack of class issues if ever there was a team that needed a certain type of player it was WCE and Kelly IMO. If they just flat out assumed we wouldn't take him because of his family issues that was a bad gamble for them to take and I think their list would have really benefited from him. Good result for us though.
