Now our worst fears have been realised, we must have a period of venting our spleens and anger, but it is important to remember that our Club's recent success has been built on an ethic of solidarity, commitment and honesty.
We have an opportunity now to ensure that every player, coach and administrator at the Geelong Football Club is a true believer in what we stand for and what we hope to achieve.
I have been so proud to be a Geelong member, particularly over the past 3-4 years, not just because of our success, but how we've gone about it.
Now is the time for us all to take the high road, and wish Gary well for his future whilst endeavouring to prove to him in the best possible way that he has made a monumental error in judgement.
We have a remarkable array of talent still on our list, and I am sure that, as always, we will use our draft picks wisely.
Once the dust has cleared on this and Bomber and the inevitable retirements and de-listings, we will need to stick together, have faith and enjoy the next step in our journey.
You love a club for better or worse. This is definitely not the better phase, but it could be worse. I agree with Brian Cook and Bomber that we don't need to bottom out as other successful clubs have done.
Success from this point will be both hard-earned and sweet.
Rise to the challenge.
GO CATS!!!

Re: Time to fight!!!

Go cats..Things will be alright.. Cats will still be a strong team next year..:thumbsu:

Re: Time to fight!!!

If we lose Bomber as well as gazza the truth is we will be OK. We still have a great club and a great list. Even if you factor in a few retirements this year we have some great young talent at the club. We also know have some salary cap room and 2 first round draft picks up our sleeve for the next 5 years.

The culture of Geelong is strong and while many of you boast about it when we are winning easily you seem to forget about it when things aren't going our way. Players & coaches come and go and we always knew that we would eventually hit a bump in the road.

But WE ARE GEELONG - and we will stand tall! Our club will regroup, appoint new people, recruit well, and let our young guns step up. We will come out of all this better and stronger than what we were before.

WE ARE GEELONG

Re: Time to fight!!!

love it!! Give us a day to grieve and be angry, but let's move forward - exciting new times ahead Cat's fans - and we still have Joel Selwood!! (and lots of others....) heheheh

Re: Time to fight!!!

I am actually somewhat happy about the Ablett GC thing.
Its showed who the true champions of the team are and who you can trust.

But not only that, it gives us more salary cap room, and some of the younger guys who have a lot of talent will now get a run in the senior side.

Its not all bad, and we still have a fantastic midfield - its not as big of a loss to us as Judd and Cousins was to West Coast.

I would have been more shattered if selwood left to be honest - lets remember that Selwood is what, 22? Ablett is 26. Selwood has a lot more years of great footy to play and I have no doubt that he will stand up and fill the void.

Re: Time to fight!!!

One door closes, another opens.

I am hoping Travis Varcoe will take the leap from small forward to genuine midfielder, just as Ablett did 5 or 6 years ago.

Re: Time to fight!!!

Them's fightin' words! But good ones. Let's belt these bastarrrrrrrrds!!! That goes for Essendon too.

Re: Time to fight!!!

A day or two for anger and venting. But yes. The club is everything.

We are Geelong.

The fightback starts tomorrow night at the B & F. Right after Scarlo escorts Gaz Jnr off the premises. We build again. For the love of the jumper.

Re: Time to fight!!!

Like a lot of other supports I been through hard times before like sitting through the 89,92,94&95, 2008 Grand Final loses. The Ayres and Colbert sage and now the last two days.

Like the 2008 GF loss I think this will really push the Geelong players to show everyone there is a lot more to the GFC then Ablett.

I have been to the last 3 B&F's I now wish I was going tomorrow night I think there will be some really passionate speeches

I will forever be greatful to the GFC and the happiness they have given me over the last four years, I now look forward to the next chapter of the GFC.

Re: Time to fight!!!

Over the last few days we've:

  • Lost our most decorated player
  • Lost our coach
  • Been completely written off by everyone
If there's a silver lining on this cloud, then hopefully this galvanises the playing group.

Ablett leaving should bond those players who stayed for less money.

Bomber leaving allows some fresh ideas and enthusiasm in the coaches box. And the real chance to tweak our gameplan slightly.

The media writing us off means we have no expectations next year...

Geez, we finished 2nd on the ladder this year... And should have been in another GF.

We're a show next year, mark my words... A fit Ottens will be important, but expect to see some other players get a run through the guts and some youngsters come in and breathe new life to the team...

A top 4 finish you would think is still on the cards, and from there anything is possible...

Just remember folks, cats will always land on their feet! :thumbsu:
I posted this on Twitter earlier today and was swiftly reminded of the Buttered Cat Paradox. ;)

We've still got a damn good team, and the most disappointing part of today is that we have to wait almost six months to see the Cats respond on-field. Can't wait. :thumbsu:

Absolultely, easy to talk about fighting, but if you want to show it, buy a membership. Even if you live interstate, but an interstate membership. Lets make next year the year we break all Geelong membership records.

We need to rebuild now, dont pick up senior players from other teams, go for the kids, keep going the same way that got them to the top the last time, no shortcuts. Lets show the rest of the AFL just how quickly we can rebuild.

2 premierships in 3 years was great but, aint seen nothing yet.........:thumbsu:

GO CATS!!!

Never a truer word has been said. Or eight words in fact. Us Cat's supporters have all been through much worse than this.

And it makes our successes all the sweeter.

Can't wait for round 1, 2011, and the journey we go on to get to Premiership number 9.

Go Catters!

Agree, we still have a great footy department (even if Bomber goes), the best recruiter in the business, the best group of core players you could want, some super talented youngsters, loyal fans, and a fantastic culture. Days like today hurt, but the future is bright.

Is there a social membership, somethig where I can just support the club. I don't want to renew my membership, I don't want to give the AFL administrators another dollar of my money.

I remember a few years ago the Adelaide Crows used "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi as a sort of unofficial theme song. I think we should use this one next year. Seems rather appropriate if you ask me.

I been knocked down so many times
Counted out 6, 7, 8, 9
Written off like some bad deal
If you're breathing you know how it feels
Call it karma, call it luck
Me, I just don't give a

Bounce, Bounce Nothing's gonna keep me down
Bounce, Bounce Stand up, shout it out
Bounce, Bounce I play hard, I play to win
Count me out, count me in
I'll be bouncing back again

This ain't no game; I play it hard
Kicked around, cut, stitched and scarred
I'll take the hit but not the fall
I know no fear, still standing tall
You can call it karma, call it luck
Me, I just don't give a

Bounce, Bounce Nothing's gonna keep me down
Bounce, Bounce Stand up, shout it out
Bounce, Bounce I play hard, I play to win
Count me out, count me in
I'll be bouncing back again

Bounce!

Bring it on, I like it rough
In your face, I call your bluff
It ain't karma, it ain't luck
Me, I just don't give a

Bounce, Bounce Nothing's gonna keep me down
Bounce, Bounce Stand up, shout it out
Bounce, Bounce I play hard, I play to win
Count me out, count me in
I'll be bouncing back again

Bounce, Bounce
Nothing's gonna keep me down
Bounce, Bounce Stand up, shout it out
Bounce, Bounce I play hard, I play to win
Count me out, count me in
I'll be bouncing back again
