Tip in Ruck/Maric up forward

Last week this popped in my head. Tip playing first Ruck and Maric as key forward. For two reasons

1- Tip has the yips at the goal front at the moment and Maric is a good kick.
2- Tip is our best Ruck.


I see it as a temporary situation, but one that I would like explored. In an ideal world it would not be a thought, be are martians in that ideal world at the minute. I dont think we would lose a lot with Maric going up there at the moment. Tip is getting the ball and spraying it. Maric is as good as Tip at leading and marking (some might say better). Need to remember Walker Porps and Knights will also be there.

Not a bad idea ...Maric took some good grabs in the backlines...different up forward I know, but they were under pressure.

Maric also would not be adverse to the fiestiness of some of the defenders...may turn up the mongrel notch we seem to need down there.

Maric was our best player against Melbourne.

Not for me, just the way Ivan plays, he can spell the forward line, but can't hold it down. Especially the frontal pressure that's lost when Tippett goes.

Not sure about the suggestion but I do like us going in with just one full-time ruckman.

Whether it is Maric with support either from Tippett (predominantly forward) or Sellar (time in defence) or both I don't mind but having two 50% game time ruckman-only players just leaves us too stretched with the midfield rotations.

It's definitely worth a try for about 10-20 minutes of the match, would be a possibility for him to kick a useful couple.

Not sure about Tips knee at the moment and if spending a whole game in the ruck would do it any good.

Great idea if they are both fit and firing though!

aside from injury, tippetts form is related to not getting the inside 50 deep enough. putting maric there will make no difference. i'm a huge fan of big ivan (small for an afl ruckman) maric, but that move makes no sense. he's our first ruckman and gives it his all. he should be backed up by another ruckman for at least a few minutes each quarter. tippett rucks the forward 30 and between them they are formidable. not alone, but as a group, they are formidable.
