Johnston I do not see as AFL level player. I know he did very well at the Roosters but every time I have seen him play at AFL he looks lost and noncompetitive.

hasn't he only played 4 career matches? it would be pretty easy to look lost at that stage of a career. just needs a string of 5 or 6 games and i think he would show his worth. Whether or not he earns this chance is another story.

I can see Jenkins playing forward full time, in a race with Johnston for that position. Giles/Jacobs will be resting in a pocket. Three talls will stretch defences

Would rather Hendo as the 3rd tall/mid. Then again, I'm sure AFC will take a horses-for-courses approach, depending on the opposition.

I see Giles as a poor man's Tippett. He's a ruck who is reasonably competent when pinch hitting in the forward line - as distinct from Tippett who is a forward who is quite competent when playing in the ruck.

As a ruckman, Giles is a considerable upgrade on Jenkins. As a forward, it's probably too close to call - I think Jenkins has the potential to be better in the mid-long term, but they're very evenly matched at the current point in time.

If that means that Giles gets selected ahead of Jenkins, then so be it. The benefit of this selection is that Jacobs gets more (and longer) rest periods, due to having a genuine ruck to support him - hopefully this would result in Jacobs playing out the season, not running out of steam a month before the finals. The downside is that Jenkins doesn't get the development time he needs if he is to improve significantly as a KPP forward.

It may be a bit harsh but his attitude seems all wrong to me. Does not look like a player who is busting a gut to keep a 22 spot. Like I said probably harsh.

If we are looking to retain the same structure as we did this finals series then its a matter of replacing tippett with Giles/Jenkins/smack. Whoever performs grabs the. Tippett role.

If we are looking to change or improve that structure then Giles/smack may be competing for the tippett role, while Jenkins and johnston may be competing for a permanent forward role.

Hawks play with hale, Roughy , Franklin and Gunston (1cm taller than tex). They manage ok.

If the players are good enough and demand selection the structure is likely to accommodate them.

I think there's a bit more to him than that. Giles is fairly competent when pinch hitting in the forward line. I'm not for a second suggesting he should play there on a regular basis, but he's much better at that role than Jacobs is.

Not quite correct. Andrew Island said that there appears to be a breakthrough but doesn’t have any info or of course will not release the information.

He also said when questioned about Mitchell was that Sydney have never raised his name as a trade option and that he had never heard of it.

Now make of that what you will.

He is doin better than Smack, Smack looks slow & lost aswell but has played alot more matches

Assuming the Grundy reports are true, Mitchell no go, and we are not completely useless at the negotiation table that surely leaves only Johnson, Parker, Rohan as guys who could command a decent enough pick/trade. (Unless someone else secretly wants out).

Andrew Ireland didn't give anything away other than today was the most positive meeting between the clubs to date. Wallace/Barrett deduced that there may be a 3rd club involved.

How so. Just checked their stats and they are very similar in every category. Giles avg 0.8 more disposals and 0.6 more goals. If Jacobs could have spent more time down forward he would have kicked more goals.

My point is more about agility and once the ball hits the ground. One thing a Tippett, Jenkins, Smack are very good at is what they do when the ball hits the ground. They are quicker and more agile and are able to compete for it better. Once the ball hits the ground with a Giles or Jacobs thats it basically. Also their turning circle is massive. Tipp etc could stop on a dime and change direction quickly. Jacobs and Giles are semi trailers when compared to the others.

Even their ages, height and weight are very similar.

Obviously Jacobs is a HO to advantage machine and Giles doesnt come close there but we are talking about a bloke I am saying is purely back up.
