I was on "gardening leave" for most of August, September and early October thus enabling me to post frequently during the day. I then went on holiday and started a new job in November. No longer posting as soon as Kurt announced Sydney was meant to be a bit of humour.

If anyone has "real" contacts at the Suns, I am confident that they will confirm that they thought Kurt was "signed, sealed and delivered" at the end of 2011. Brisbane also thought they were in with a good chance which simply indicates that Tippett/Blucher were playing the lot of them. If anyone believes that August was the first time Sydney thought it would be a good idea to have a chat to Kurt then I have an excellent bridge to sell you.
I'm pretty sure you indicated that he was signed literally by GCS and not figuratively and I can imagine you're right about GCS thinking they had him in the bag. But that wasn't my point. The point was that your story (although it may be true as you're sticking with it) was not believed because of the timing. Surely, you can admit that your trip and new job seemed convenient timing wise and whether the story is true or not people don't believe it. That's why I said let it go. Let it go even if other posters bring it up themselves because on a forum, without knowing you personally and with no evidence, no one (I'm assuming anyway) believes you. I would just completely ignore references to when you stopped posting/your trip and not reply to them if I was you. That's what I was getting at.

"Adelaide's penalties are unlikely to be as fierce as the $930,000 in fines and the loss of crucial draft picks that crippled the Blues a decade ago"

This is ridiculous, media are all over the place.

As I said earlier this week, this has all the trappings of a Paul Keating pre-budget leak. If we "only" lose our first and second round pick this year plus compensation for Kurt's departure the spin doctors will be claiming it a wonderful outcome for the AFC. I have no inside knowledge on the penalties but I would be happy to put money on us losing further draft picks.

It was also unbelievably dumb for us to initially come out boasting that we might have picked up Siggins and Atkins with our original draft picks.

When comparing our punishment to Carltons you can't say we will be hit harder. Losing pick 2 compared to pick 20 are oceans apart even though they are both first round draft picks. The AFL haven't used this logic previously (Melbourne were given much better draft picks for Scully than Geelong received for Ablett) but logic and consistency have never been the strong suit of the AFL.

P.S. The story coming out of Gold Coast was that he had done an Ablett. I believe there is more to the Gold Coast and Brisbane stories but it may not be in their best interests to make it public. I remain hopeful that the whole story will eventually emerge but I suspect that the AFL would like to keep things quiet. Is it a pure coincidence that Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney were all eager to screw us on the deal but apparently none of them knew about the "agreement"?

Not really. Outsource the calls to an Indian call centre which has thousands working there, they greet you with "Hi I'm Rob Chapman" with a distinct Indian accent   .......should be done in a few hours!!!!
Anyone seen the comedy Outsourced, quite funny

So it will all be over for us by noon tomorrow. Let's move on.

Who on here thinks that the AFL have the guts to pin tanking on Melbourne, particularly when Demetriou was so adament when it was happening that it wasn't happening? That would make him look a fool wouldn't it? Even though anyone watching certain Melbourne games could see what they were doing to lose.

Reckon we'll be the AFLs only off season scalp :-(

The Crows will argue:
THEY have not broken the salary cap, which cost Carlton so dearly in its penalties from the AFL in 2002, when they were restricted in two drafts and fined close to $1 million.
PLEADING guilty to all of the charges before the club does, is not an admission of wilfully breaking the rules or seeking personal gain.
THE charges were brought upon them by themselves, but not necessarily in a wilful or sinister fashion.
Sinister? Perhaps not. Incompetent, maybe. Interested to hear how they argue it was not 'wilful'.

Yep the decision to not trade him last year was idiotic, arrogant and sackable. We had an out, but we got greedy and gambled and lost. Trigg knew what it took to keep him last time, we had to sell our soul. Unbelievably dumb.

Pretty much. You would have thought if the deal went down the way Trigg is claiming ( pressure from T Tippett to break the rules) then he should have been down on his knees thanking the good lord for giving him an out.

And Emma announces the sanctions. We lose next year's first two draft picks plus the losses from this year.

Over to the spin doctors

The 8 - 12 games for Kurt sounds good.

Surely Sydney won't pay him the same dollars next year given he will miss so many games. Does that then bring GWS back into play?

As for our penalty, surely it has to be next year only. With the spare cash we have the hit free agency hard to make up for it.

Ha ha told you we would have the 'leak' tonight! The Age must have photos of Vlad to be getting these constant details.
If we get away with next years draft sanctions and nothing beyond that I will be happy.
Kinda sounds like they're taking a stab at it really.

If he missed half a year wouldn't that just knock the figure down to like 3.5 years and $3 million? Still reckon that'd be too much for GWS to be interested. Especially missing 8-12 games, Sydney can handle that, they'd be a potential top 4 team without him and then adding Tippett for the run home would be a bonus

Don't think so. They can't say definitively what the penalties are because what would be the point of tomorrow and confirms its a farce.

No one up until tonight has suggested Tippett won't fight it and what his penalty might be.

so EQ says we're getting screwed, another dude says not as much as carlton.
we cant have both.
looking forward to the hope of EQ being wrong tomorrow.

At the same time if Sydney are travelling well, in particular their forward line, it could be destabalising and Id hate to be the player making way. If they suspend him for 12 weeks I'm assuming he can't play any footy, so they will need to give him some games in a lower league to get match fitness and form.
