Tom Boyd

A club that had won 1 flag in 90 years...

The game he played today? GWS could win the next 10 flags, Boyd could never get another touch, and he is worth every cent. Absolutely.

The Hawks/Cats/Lions eras have made us forgotten how big 1 flag is.

Boyd was in the top 3 on the ground today.

Worth. Every. Cent.

A few of us have made this point in this thread and many others over the last few years. It's maybe more impactive coming from another club's supporter.

One flag means so much to this club. Every member of the 22 will be celebrated. He did his job, and then some, and played a critical role in the GF win. End of story.

For mine I hate to admit it but Hawkins performance in 2011 was far better than Boyds today

Maybe.'

Boyd two years younger than Hawkins was in 2011. And already more capable of being more than a stay at home forward.

Yep. I mean, it should be the same for any clubs players. Carlton haven't won since 1995, Essendon 2000, Tigers 1980..who knows when these droughts will end, any one of them could be 60 years.

Never know when the next drought will be (unless you support ****ing Hawthorn).

The likes of Fletcher Roberts, Shane Biggs and Toby McLean are club legends for life. Not trying to say anything bad about these guys, just saying they aren't the big name stars, but they delivered a flag to the Dogs. Same with Boyd. They belong with a list of only about 40 other individual names EVER.

Being asked to carry so much of the rucking load last week & today might be the making of him

Bog today. Has stood up whole finals series. Hadn't justified the salary but working towards it. Paid millions, and went a big way to winning the flag for the dogs.
He doesnt have to justify any salary. He helped them win a premiership and thats what he was recruited to do. Salary is now a redundant argument.

Again, ironic.

Well I guess if I followed Melbourne I'd hitch my wagon to another team's success too.

Enjoy the night.

yep, bont had 90% DE in a grand final and not those kind of sideways kick or 1:2 handball disposals, either.

boyd held his marks. What a difference that makes. Seriously hoping his off season surgery enables him to duplicate this performance on a weekly basis next year.

The commentators said he had a Tom Hawkins style break out game today.

Like Tom Hawkins I expect him to go back to being useless.

Both Hawkins and Boyd can console their anguish as they polish their premiership medallions.

What is it about St Kilda fans and Tom Boyd? Did he shit in your shoes or something?

He's a man now. Grew before our eyes. That goal from 60m....amazing

I think everyone is forgetting that he has just turned 21. 21! We never hear the end of how the Bont is 20 but Boyd is playing ruck and kpf 2 of the hardest positions in the game for a young fella. Massive potential just wait till hes 25-26 and his frame is rock solid. Great gutsy move by the dogs.

Maybe something to do with 2 premierships > 1 premiership now?

BOG and it wasnt even close to be honest. Trust him to actually take his marks against us. Paid for his whole contract today
Kennedy would have been a worthy Norm Smith medallist. JJ had a few turnovers. But Boyd was outstanding in the last 3 quarters. Clunked everything!

Wow. What a ballsy trade.
With a flag it pays off and they still have the guy for another 10 years.

Oh, this. So much this.

I'm a fan of the Sydney trade for Buddy - kept them up there and genuine threats for the flag for years.

But the dogs can be graded on a different curve. There's an argument he's already paid his way, and one flag is enough.

Not from me though. I'm greedy now. **** you Sydney, Hawthorn and Geelong - and yes you GWS - I want more than one now.

:)

Off-topic but those turnovers only came about because he took the game on.

Besides, for every turnover, he had 3-4 line-breaking zone-cutting running disposals.

Hawkins turned the game for the Cats in the third quarter Geelongs forward line was struggling and he stood up and turned the game. From memory Hawkins was older and should have been more developed but it was a better performance

Yeah agree, I saw so many similarities today. He was just massive, I had him bog and I think he is going to berserk from here. Such a confidence boost.

Worth every cent after today. Probably deserved the Norm Smith too
