I don't think they'll lose any players but where it will hurt is trying to attract experienced players when they're in full premiership mode. His salary is basically worth two very good players that they could bring in to play a specific role.
Like Matty Suckling?

We've signed all of the players we want, the next issue will be in 2018/19 when those guys we've signed will require contract extensions - hopefully the taper in Boyd's salary down to around the $500k mark (as some on our board have suggested) makes this task easier.
Of course if we did manage to attract one more superstar (e.g. Hurley) that task becomes more difficult.

There is also the rumour that we will try and play non-mature first year players up to (but not exceeding) 10 games as that doesn't trigger the second year bonus clause for draftees as mandated by the AFL. We've done it last year, and Dunkley has played 7 games this year with Dahlhaus, Stringer, Adams and Mclean due to come back in the next few weeks.

So when a club gets knocked out in the first week of the finals it's now considered to be a premiership contender in that year?
Geelong didn't make the finals last year and they are in contention too in most people's opinions.
We're certainly in a better position than many clubs.

You said "in full premiership mode". Try telling anyone at the club were not in full tilt premiership mode. We are 100% trying to win this years premiership and we signed an experienced player to help last off season. We have literally done exactly, word for word, what you said we cant do. So youre wrong.

clearly you have no idea

Given you've offered nothing but shite I'm kind of glad. You have absolutely no understanding of how the Bulldogs' list works and is set up

Full premiership mode is when a club is realistically challenging for a premiership. To win a premiership a club needs to make a grand final.

Apparently you think a club that gets knocked out in the first week of the finals meets that criteria

Good for you, a bit delusional but if it helps you sleep at night go for it

And you have no idea on what you're arguing about. You're just replying for the sake of replying

Which is pretty standard for you

You are really cut up that, despite this massive contract on a player not worth it yet, the Bulldogs are potentially contending.

We got knocked out the first round of the finals last year. We have improved since then and might even have the double chance. From there you've got to be in the finals to win it -- we've beaten Adelaide this year and Sydney in Sydney so we know we can beat other top four contenders.

Now stop replying to me with your absolute nonsense.

If you go back and read my post you'll see that I actually stated that I don't think that the Doggies will lose any players because of Boyd's contract.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that the Doggies will hand games to kids purely to get under the salary cap. If that's true (which I highly doubt) then they have put themselves into a really bad position.

No, you're the one getting upset with my post, which is really bizarre.

I stated that I don't think the doggies will lose any players due to Boyd's contract, but where it may effect them is attracting experienced players in the future. With Boyd's $1m per year salary for the next handful of years then it's obviously going to have an affect, especially if he doesn't become the star that's expected of him.

That's just common sense

So, if you go back and read my original post then you'll understand that what occurred last year is irrelevant, I'm talking about in a couple of years time when all your young players will be at their best.

Apparently this is all too much for you to understand, which is actually hilarious because I'm giving your club a compliment, I think that they will be a genuine premiership chance over the next 3 years.

You lot are hilarious :)

But every club keeps and loses players. Sydney lost Membrey by keeping Goodes, they lost Mumford by getting Franklin. Hawthorn lost a family institution in Kennedy. They lost Suckling. They lost Anderson. If we get Hurley, we may lose players, but our argument is we will keep the players we want to keep - Stringer, Bontempelli, Macrae etc will always be the priority over the 25-45 ranked players on the list. If your argument is that Boyd's contract will impact our ability to re-sign the elite kids, or attract elite level talent to the club, well, it just won't. It may impact the fringe players, but there isn't a club in the land, yours included, that won't burn a fringe player to get a gun in to the club. That's what list management is.

Dude, I've already stated several times that I don't think that that doggies will lose any players because of Boyd's salary.

And yes, after Sydney signed Franklin it had an impact of their ability to sign other players. Remember when the AFL banned them from trading? I'm not saying that the same thing will happen to the doggies (no doubt a doggies fan will reply suggesting that I am /sigh) but when you have $1m a year tied up with one player of course it's going to have an impact, especially if that player never becomes a top 5 in your club.

Honestly, I gave your club a compliment by stating that I think they are a genuine premiership chance in the near future but all the responses since then has been claims that I hate your club and angry replies. It's actually been amusing watching it unfold :)

We signed Suckling last year and are well in the hunt for Hurley next year.
This is in the period of time where Boyd's hit against the salary cap is at it's greatest, as well.

Sydney didnt win a final, Geelong didnt make finals, Adelaide beat us by 7 points and then got smashed. I guess by your logic those teams arent in full on premiership mode. Hell the only two teams that are would be Hawks and WCE.

The club believed it could win the flag this year and is doing everything it can to do just that. = us being in full on premiership mode. pretty simple

Please tell us which teams have already been knocked out in the first week of the finals in 2016.

That's nice, how much is Suckling on?

another doggies fan getting upset when I give them a compliment

You know, doggies fans are the only supporters who get upset when you give them a compliment
I won't generalize about Melbourne fans because I know quite a few good ones and it would be unfair on them to include you in that group.
Answer the question.

Your question is irrelevant to the discussion. My original post was referring to a couple of years time when in my opinion the doggies are a genuine premiership threat.
What happened last year is irrelevant to my post.

Are you deliberately being obtuse?
