Clap clap I have not heard that before.

How did the 800k a year that you paid Clarke work out for you ? At least Boyd hasn't said I don't care how much I'm getting paid this joint is a rabble I want out.

We can all play this game

True or the money spent on Dawes, etc.

Ah the Neeld years reads like the wonder years.

The difference is everyone but Connolley and Neeldy knew that the Dees were recruiting spuds.

No one truly knows with Boyd just yet.

Wow, 100 pages coming up.

The arguments are no doubt circular now, so not much else new to add. He's not tracking as well as you'd want him to, but equally he's not been atrocious. Worse marking than you'd expect, but better aggression and ruck work is not too bad and his kicking for goal is still pretty good. He's nowhere near value for money and maybe never will be, but without trotting out the explanations for why it was ultimately a good statement for the club to make (and risk to take) that others have done more eloquently than I could, it has so far been a good thing for the club that it happened imo.

I think it's also important to evaluate what will make this a "successful" trade or "value for money". For a traditionally successful club maybe it would be too much of a gamble for a variety of reasons. If your club had won a flag in recent history maybe it'd be too much of a reach. But ultimately if Boyd has 4 marks, 6 disposals and kicks 1.3 in a winning GF, while doing nothing of note for the entire season while our mid-small forwards kicked all the goals, he'll have been worth it. One flag will be worth it all. I'd rather the dogs built a Hawks-like dynasty, but with the Orange and Grey spectre looming over the AFL and 60+ years of no silverware one flag will be considered a massive success.

Melbourne was paying Clarke $600k per year not $800k.

Hahahha you would argue anything now.

He was going to Perth for 600k and the demons smashed it out of the park so move on I'm over you.

But yeah he choose Melbourne coz they were real attractive at that stage and didn't go home for the same money

Lol wow

Clark dominated the games he played for us, just unfortunate with a career ruining injury, hardly a spud. Shit bloke yes, even he never decked a teammate though, but not a spud. Dawes guilty as charged.

Because a punt on Peter Wright was so much more risky than a punt on Boyd, who'd shown absolutely nothing in his 1 year in the system to justify a million dollar contract, amirite?

Face the facts. You could have had Wright and Lever instead of Boyd by keeping your first pick and taking pick 8 from GWS for Griffen. I'm not sure why you think that morons would say that the draft was the answer, especially given that Dalrymple and co have pretty much nailed every first round pick they've had for the past 5 years.

if they walked away with lever and wright, they'd be right up there with GWS in terms of talent IMO

massive missed opportunity

Who do you genuinely think will win a flag out of you, Saints and Dogs first? Any do you think it will happen in this generation?
What's that got to do with my post? :drunk:
But to answer the question, Doggies then us I think. Saints still rely heavily on Roo, Dempster and to a lesser extent Monty.

But you know what you had a crack and I'm sure Melbourne fans at the time loved that you did. Fail or not your club made a stand and went for it.

That's how we feel and many accept it could go balls up but we had a crack and sometimes that's not a bad thing

True. At his peak Mitch was good. Not sure on him as a bloke. Reckon Carlisle might end up similarly problematic. Wouldn't say having a slap at a bloke for tipping a beer on your head is reputation ruining though.

I wasn't thinking of Mitch when mentioning Neeldy's spuds. You know who they are it's probably a bit mean and traumatic to name them all.

Oh god really??

You can't dismiss Boyd he got involved so your talking out your a$$. We couldn't make a single deal for Griff once Boyd got involved or we would have!!!!!

Hindsight is brilliant but Boyd got involved even if you want to pretend he didn't so move on your talking gibberish now.

It's a pretty simple timeline read it and try and process it.

End discussion have a great day
So you agree that you could have recieved a top 10 pick if you hadn't gone for Boyd. I'm glad we got that sorted.

Yep, don't remind us of the Neeld years please. :'(

Meh we all have those years for us it was Peter Rhode. FWIW I'm loving Melbourne's list build. Not counting plastics it's Better than anyone (possibly bar us)

It is not 2012 anymore. All three are taking positive steps forward and could conceivably make finals next year. If GWS don't set up a dynasty it is going to be wide open for anyone of them the next 5 years.

Without the Neeld years your not in the place you are now.

The same with us and the worst coach we have ever had In Macca. Without this deplorable human we don't suck enough to get low picks and no Bont or Stringer and co

Firstly, I was correcting you, not arguing. Secondly, stop trying to re-write history.

The club moved quickly to play down the figures, but the offer is substantial - perhaps at least in the $600,000-a-season range.

Clark had made it clear he wanted to be traded to Fremantle, but the offer is enough to make him waiver.

True, he's a damn good development coach though.

Wow you really are a .

Freo Offered 600k

It's says 600 plus so you think he decided to go to the worse club in the league and not go home for the same money?? Or even a tiny bit more?

Stop being an arrogant flog and accept logic and not some garbage that was put in that rag that makes cr@p up. It was well known Clarke was on near 800k so get over yourself.

By the way your now on ignore don't bother responding

Dogs have the talent, Saints the list balance.
Honestly though, they are slipping behind teams that were once behind them.
GWS' dynasty, Swans ability to manage their list, Crows current crop of talent and their recruiting success.
Plus, if they keep McDonald and Hogan, the Dees are looking seriously dangerous. Its all about consistency for them now.
