Life-altering money for DeKoning allegedly coming from St Kilda.

I could think of 17 other positons St Kilda would be far better off spending that money on.

Raises questions about Silvagni's list management capability.

He's at his third club, but he's done nothing at any of them.

I guess we’ll find out how badly we need a ruck given Marshall is out for a third of the season.

Our backups ain’t much chop.

i think finn callaghan is more relaistc and a need for them
They could probably afford both.

A number of clubs are chasing Callaghan as far as I'm aware (some chatter about him on the bulldogs board due to a link to Bevo's family)

Looks about right to me.

Owies is a very limited player. Don't let the jumper tugs cloud your judgement. Martin was delisted due to being injured literally all of the time.

Kennedy is the same type of midfielder as Cripps/Hewett/Cerra. You can't play all four in a team and he had the most trade value. Young has been shite apart from 2022 and was rightly told to explore his options but had zero takers. Hopefully that has lit a fire under him.

Petracca was never leaving Melbourne this year, so there's that. Houston is a gun, but it never made sense for us.

Our list management team are trying to build for sustained success rather than loading up for a 3 year window. People say our window is done when Cripps retires and that may be true. But taking Jagga at 3 with Cody Walker on his way in a couple of years gives us a chance to rebuild on the run and continue contending beyond what is normally expected.

I assume you're referring to Martin/Carroll/Owies/Kennedy as the four players. All of them have serious limitations to their game. Martin's is injuries. The rest is skill and foot speed. Everyone knows we are a slow team and in order to get faster types in we needed to make room in the team.

We have some younger players on the list that we hope will step up to fill the void and provide better balance in the side. Time will tell if it works, but there are plenty of examples across the league where it has. Collingwood are a prime example.
I would have thought you actually get a premiership first before you decide you're building for sustained success

Carlton would have to go back to the paper bags if they plan to keep all their players and match a crazy St Kilda bid.

It would really make things interesting in the entire deal because the power lay with the player there and I don't think a club would really consider too hard that the player might choose to stay and stuff up their entire list management plan for five years.

I'm dubious of the actual offer, it's way too early and I think the club and media is just fishing.

We've flashed the cash before and no one wants it.

If we have a good 2025 it might get more interesting though.

Who else needs to be extended end of this season who might want a bigger bite of that cash?

Nas, Owens and Windhager are the biggest of the ones there. We'd throw everything we could at Nas to make sure he stays, but it would be nowhere close to what we're allegedly offering TDK.

Pittonet and Cripps were the best clearance team in the league for a while back there.

Personally, I want to see Carlton match the FA offer and he agrees and signs it.

If they match and he signs it the cap chaos will be funny.

I honestly think its best for everyone if he stays for a modest pay rise.

He plays pretty hard and is already getting hurt, I don't think he's a Witts/Goldstein durable ruck.

Fits well in the Carlton system, will he be another Grundy at another club? That said he could be a fine forward/burst ruck if the injuries settle down. I guess Hawthorn Ned that.

Rucks rarely give bang for buck. Jolly did, twice (Sydney and Collingwood) but dynasties usually have smart mid price rucks eg Cameron (who is improving, might be time to trade him) McEvoy/Hale or Nankervis.

If he gets an insane offer, or Carlton can wangle a trade somehow, do it, but I thinkbthe chances of it working out for everyone seem low.

The whole point of free agency is so that the player can look out for their interests.

And really, given an AFL club will chew your body up and then fire you to hobble out the door like you're twenty years older without blinking the player owes no loyalty to the club.

The 7c in the dollar scheme of arrangement offer the saints are known for would be pretty life altering for him …
Saints should be thankful for Stocker, Dow and Carroll and just jog on …

lol

on the plus side Carlton have been shyte since we poached Aaron Hamill.

I think is more guys like Sam Edmund gets told the "fibs" by recruiters, agents, club staffs, etc than he making it up.

imagine the relationship between Edmund and his source if they told him the offer is 1.2 mill and Edmund goes on air and say 1.7 mill to get some clicks and attention.

Likewise, my suspicion is that this is just a ploy to drive TDK's price up so that you can (a) get other Carlton players and (b) to prevent us from competing with you for other trade/FA targets.

St Kilda's war chest must be full of rubles. So much money but no one seems to want it.
I suspect they make a monster offer for LDU.
Someone will take the payday eventually.

Wonder if this’ll be the fish that St Kilda land. Not worth 1.7 a year unless you think he is the next Gawn.

Several Lions players were offered big coin from St Kilda and knocked it back to be paid approx 300k less at the lions.
