Cripps was our best pretty comfortably IMO.

TDK got plenty of it and had a good second half in particular, but he was soundly beaten by his opponent.
28 poss 18 contested
5 tackles and 30 hitouts 510 mtrs gained in 80% game time
you are a hard marker

I thought TDK was your best player for the night and Cripps played well but not as damaging as he usually is and McIntosh did a great job in the 2nd half.

Nank played well and kicked the goals (1 was just luck)and was also 1 of our best but would say soundly beat TDK

He was fantastic last night.
The bloke digs in when chips are down like no other.

Been saying it for a while. I’ve seen nothing to suggest TDK is a better player than Tim English and he’s signed for 5 years at 800k per season.

Look at TDKs best season against English at the same age.

Bias of course but I'd say TDK has a bit more mongrel in his game and more direct with his ball use in terms of pumping it in long and playing more like a 200cm inside mid.

But I'd agree there really shouldn't be a ridiculous gap in what they're paid. 1.7 a year is stupid money for a ruck.

Yeah I know the stats; they often don't tell the full story.A lot of those touches weren't particularly impactful.

I am a huge fan and am not knocking him at all - effort in particular cannot be questioned - but last night I reckon Tom was maybe 3rd or 4th best for the Blues.

Not sure how TDK can really turn down the $7.5 million on offer from the Saints. Maybe he could justify it if Carlton were a legitimate flag contender this year, but that doesn't appear to be the case. He's turning 26 in a few months and it's entirely possible that this is the biggest contract he'll ever be offered in his career.

Would be really difficult to decline St Kilda's offer given the current circumstances.

I don't know if I'd want to go to the Saints to be their saviour. The fans would turn on you pretty quickly. How much extra money is that worth? I dunno

Nank pantsed him. Tom had a good stat line, but a rubbish game. Last night was a good example of why you shouldn't pay such big money for a ruckman like him. It was once he started to get his hands on the footy that Richmond took over, he just kept hacking it back to them.
At least he looked like he was trying......which is more than what a lot of Blues showed in the second half.

He doesnt want to play for St Kilda. The club has put a 7 year $1.1m on the table. St Kilda from reports placed a 7 year $1.7m on the table. I am sure TDK management and club can meet half way. 8 year $1.25m will do it.

That would be about the best Carlton could offer and they would have done all they can to keep him
St Kilda & SoS have been in his ear along time now and have worked on this deal for 12 months and its huge
I posted about this about 6 months ago i think on the StKilda board when i was first told about it and couldnt believe it but was assured it real and will be made public but broke earlier than was mentioned

You guys have pittonet, that's ample rucking ability. If you got a decent pick you could split it into later picks and grab multiple small forwards
If I had the option between trading McKay for market value or losing TDK for a lone first round compensation pick I'm booting McKay.

I'd rather keep both but if our season goes up in smoke changes will occur.

Could TDK serve as primarily a KPF - or at least a guy who plays mostly forward and only sometimes chops out in the ruck?

If so, yeah I think you should have no hesitation in moving McKay on if you get a good deal.

Nah he's a ruck only. Forward craft is a bit meh. Think he genuinely kicks more goals from ruck than he does when he plays forward.

Players retire and free up salary cap space - unlikely we are going to replace Docherty, Newman, Gov, Haynes and Williams with other free agents. Half our list are 23 and under we have some good kids coming through and more coming Harry Dean, Jack Ison and Tyson Gresham this year. Cody Walker next year. We re not going to give up draft picks to trade in players from other club as all these youngsters have been training through our F&S and NextGen academy for past few years.

I think what happens when athletes reach their mid-20s and start to enter their peak years is their managers get in their ear about their future and the idea that this is probably the largest amount of money they'll ever earn in their life. At a certain point, I think it turns into an irresponsible decision (for you and/or your family) to not take the money e.g. it would have been irresponsible for Gary Ablett Jr to have not taken the money on offer from the Suns, despite knowing the team wouldn't be competitive for a while. I've listened to many athletes in many sports say 'I had to take the money' when faced with decisions like this and I think it's hard for some fans to wrap their heads around that because to us it's the game/club we love, but to the players it's a business and they have to think about what's best for them.

Ask yourself - if you were offered double your salary to do the same job 20kms away, would you do it? Now it might not be exactly double what TDK is currently on, but you get my point. It's a significant upgrade in salary to do the same job and you only have to travel 20kms further each morning.
