Did they say anything else??

It was late last year and KB was talking about Marc Murphy and Cyril Rioli and I called and asked him about Tom Hawkins (refering back to the article in the Herald Sun in 04 about father son picks). KB mentioned that he had heard Bobby Davis raving about this kid who was going to be a star and said he would try and get Bobby on the line.

About 15 mins later Bobby called in and said that he had seen him play quite a few games over the past few years and he liked what he saw. He said that he was a real big kid (about 6'5) with a great set of hands and that he could roost the ball a country mile. Spoke about the game in Bentleigh and also said that he was going to watch him play on the following weekend. Finished it off saying "the boy is a champion in the making and that he's fair dinkum unbelievable!" in true Bobby Davis fashion.

does this girl happen to be Jimmy Bartel's sister? Last we heard she was Tom's girl.

You sure you're not mixed up there?
I thought Jimmy Bartel was going out with Tom Hawkins' sister.

If Tom is indeed going out with Jimmy's sister, then wow...let's hope they get married, have many (male) children...and all hail the F/S rule!!!!

:)

I think he played a few games for Sandringham last year, could do so again this year.

Played the last 3 games for Sandy but has said that he will play a few more this year. Xavier Ellis (also from MG) managed 8 games for Gippsland Power last year so you would expect Tom to play about the same amount for Sandy this year. Should also play for NSW/ACT in the Under 18 carnival being from Finley in NSW (where Crawf hails from) so will play in division 2.

Youth Test a thriller

Australia and Ireland have fought out a thrilling draw after Ryan Normington missed his chance for glory when he sprayed his after-the-siren shot out on the full in the Under-17 International Rules curtain-raiser between Australia and Ireland at Telstra Dome on Friday night.

Normington revived memories of Stephen Kernahan's infamous shot at goal in 1993, missing everything with his drop kick from 35 metres out to lock his team into a 0.11.6 (39) to 2.7.6 (39) draw.

Chris Masten gathered 30 touches for the Australians, while Bryce Gibbs, a possible number one pick at this year's AFL NAB Draft, found the ball 19 times.

Forward James Sellar booted four overs and took six marks, four of which were contested, while Tom Hawkins hauled in five grabs on his way to 18 possessions and scored an important over to level the scores in the last term.

While for the Irish, Shane O'Rourke, a 195cm forward, showed tremendous agility to boot three overs.

After booting five three-pointers to Ireland's none in the third quarter, the Australians appeared home and hosed early in the last term when a Normington three-pointer gave the home team a nine-point lead.

However two goals in less than three minutes to Denis McGoldrick then Pearce Hanley gave the visitors a one-point lead approaching the nine-minute mark of the last term.

An O'Rourke over from the 50-metre line stretched the Irish lead to five at the 11-minute mark before Tim McIntyre capitalised on some smart play from impressive forward Hawkins to narrow the gap to three points.

Hawkins then marked strongly and drop-kicked with aplomb from 40 metres out, scoring a three-pointer with two minutes left to level the scores before an inspirational tackle by Jarrad Grant prevented McGoldrick from running in and scoring.

The ball was swept up the other end and marked by Normington but he failed to score with his shot after the siren.

AUSTRALIA: 0.3.2, 0.4.2, 0.9.4, 0.11.6 (39)
IRELAND: 0.3.0, 0.5.2, 0.5.3, 2.7.6 (39)

GOALS – Australia: Nil
Ireland: Hanley, O'Driscoll
OVERS - Australia: Sellar 4, McIntyre, Millar, Kreuzer, McEvoy, Collier, Hawkins, Normington
Ireland: O'Rourke 3, Mulhall 2, Cullivan, Murphy

Hi everyone.

I might put up some more detailed information on the draft board about Hawkins later. But at this stage he is a giant and has a huge body already. Is listed at 198cms and 97kgs. The thing with him was when he played TAC last year in the last 3 games he looked very comfortable at the higher level and playing against most players who are older than him.
He got a lot of the ball in the last game he dominated. I have seen that game
and they played him at full forward. He took a number of very strong marks and kicked 5 goals. They also played him at CHF in the other 2 games.
Warncock was the ruckman for Sandringham.
He is big but athletic and moves well and takes a mark like a key forward and not a ruck.

However he will most likely become a ruck at AFL level. I would have him at about 15 in the upcoming draft. It is a very strong one and if for example a player like him was available in the last draft he would have gone well inside the top 10. I dont know what it is about Geelong and the father/son but when you have it you might as well flaunt it.

From what Ive heard he would easily make top 5 if he was avaliable on the open market.

Not top 5 IMO.

Gibbs, Gumbleton, Sellar, Riewoldt, Thorp are all much more likely to go ahead of him. They are all very special. Hawkins is in the next group down.
