  • THE Bombers have axed Tom Hislop, bringing to nine the number of players leaving the club ahead of the draft.
The 20-year-old Hislop was drafted with pick 20 in the 2006 NAB AFL draft. The Tasmanian utility played seven games for the Bombers since making his debut in 2007. (afl website)

Robust and powerful player who is strong overhead and a prolific ball winner. All-Australian at U18 level this year averaging 20 disposals and ranking number one for tackles. Has an excellent speed and endurance combination being sub 3.00sec for 20m and mid level 14 for the Beep Test. AIS/AFL Academy graduate. (burgatron review)

what do we think? would be handy to have... could be what we are looking for.... pick 46 anyone?

ready made afl player.. has afl pre-seasons under his belt... would be ready to go next year... apparently plays with no fear...

11, 29, 45, 46.... maybe psd? doubt we could get him in the psd... i guess it matters if hine rated him previously.... would be a good aquisition....

Why did Essendon dump him?

i got my info off another thread... but it seems he has an attitude problem.. but then again so did medhurst...

anyway, attitude problem or not essunbumbs, still offered him a one year deal which he wouldnt accept..

from what others have reported he is ferocious at the ball... would be just what we need..

Re: tom hilsop delisted

I wouldn't be against it nor would I be all for it. His disposal is average and for an inside player he doesn't have great work rate. So in the end it is relative to what we see in pick 46. I would hazard a guess that pick 46 would offer more potential long term as well as not coming with known problems. Although Hilsop has enough to work with and fits a need so I wouldn't be livid if we went down that track. He may get more out of himself knowing his on his last chance.

We just got rid of someone who cant kick in Shaw lets not get another one unless he gets the pill 30 plus every week. Maybe PSD could be the go or late in Nov draft if there is nothing else around.

Hello, he was delisted for a reason.

They also get traded for a reason. If the powers a be think he's worth a pick and they see something in him Essendon don't then i happy to give him a go. How good would it be if we turn him around and he plays a blinder on ANZAC day.

how stupid do we look if we draft him at 46 and he then continues with his lazy and bad attitude, and then at 47 the next anthony is taken?

Hello, he was delisted for a reason.

Because he wouldn't except a new deal. He is obviously headed to another club through the National or PSD.

I don't think it will be our mob however, but he does fit a few categories we need.

Doubt we'll look at him though. I'd prefer to draft our own inside midfielder.

For what its worth guys, I am big fan of this kid - attacks it like an animal, top 20 pick, he's disposal is ok and so is his pace,. Obviously there is something going on but many people at bomberland are very upset with this. Should be a really good pick up.

I believe he will be a very good inside mid.

Re: tom hilsop delisted

yes should definetly get him, wasnt given a chance at bombers ,he is the in and under player we need ,

At most, I would rookie list the kid!

I remember he was talked about heaps before the 06 draft, and was considered an absolute steal for the bombers.

I have seen him play a couple of times, tough player, but skills aren't great and not the quickest bloke around. Reminds me of Alan Toovey!

From BomberBlitz:

1/ I don't think it's breaking news to say he missed the pre-season comp for the same reasons Lovett did. It was publicised if I recall correctly??

Not to mention that he and Jetta were out late (I think with Zantuck) the night before a VFL game last year.

For those discussing his contract etc. and why would he reject it, well maybe it had a behavioural clause in it which he didn't like so he asked the club to shop him around, then maybe when nobody besides Hawthorn were interested but only in a complex deal, we decided he had shown he was not dedicated to Essendon and thought it was best to let him go.

That and the fact Dodoro wanted 5 picks and with Lovett staying it meant we had 4.

-----

2/ Hey, most of you seem to have missed something.

He rejected a 1 year deal

Therefore, the alternative was to offer a 2 year deal or delist him

Given his rejection of a 1 year deal indicated less than a full desire to stay at the club, option 2 prevailed.

All very logical and reasonable.

Don’t know much about him but if his disposal is average we should not take him. We have too many in that category as it is. We should not take another player who doesn’t have good skills. Other than disposal he sounds a likely type for us. Attitude is apparently an issue if you believe the SEN crew. Depending on what exactly that means we might be able to fix it.
