Good bloke
Just in awe of this blokes courage. Backed into a huge contest tonight - hurt himself bigtime but his opponent is now in hospital.

Just amazing he nearly died on field and can now do this.

I'm constantly surprised he isn't talked up more in the media. Maybe if he was a former crim now playing for Collingwood he would get a better run.

Sadly he's never going to live down the whole "Kidney Survivor Who's a Hero Just For Playing Again!" schmaltz from our media....

It's always gonna be Tom Lonergan Kidney Boy and never Tom Lonergan Bloody Good Defender......

and probably should be all-australian. i can't remember him being beaten this year
I thought he was beaten a fair few times this year.

Not quite as good as 2011 IMO. Wasn't he destroyed by Jack Riewoldt?

He was completely exposed running back into a pack, and I don't think anyone would blame the guy if he were to take it easy in situations like this considering the experiences he's had in the past. So much respect for Tom.

looking at the state riewoldt kicked 2 and had 11 disposals. i don't recall him being destroyed, i don't have a great recollection of the game but from memory i don't remember riewoldts goals being anything too special

Lol sorry, shit memory

Only time he's been beaten this year was the first Adelaide game. But everyone was beaten pretty bad that day.

My intention was to start a thread dedicated to last nights standout heros Tom Lonergan and Taylor Hunt, but Long Bomb beat me to it.

I'll never forget the Johnno Brown incident when all the attention was focused on the heroism of JB, but if you study the video, one Tom Lonergan is running flat chat into an avalanch of players, which included JB, with the flight of the ball.
Toms courage that day was beyond the call of duty, it was nuts! Last night he's gone and did it again, I for one will never critisize him when one day he looses his pace, or whatever, but I doubt he'll ever loose that courage, that's something you either have or you don't, and he's blessed with bucket loads.

That was a win for the ages, full of courage, a credit to the GFC, and the reason why I follow this club apart from their great skills.

I hope someone tells Tom and Taylor exactly what we think of them, outstanding!

RE Domsy, I dont recall him smashed at all this year. He has never been a standout flashy type but his ability to run with their best forward, spoil cleanly most of the time and effect the contest is amazing. Definitely should be AA in my mind - HT too - but it wont happen.

Guts and courage like Sel - probably gets the respect internally and rightfully so but externally (outside of us) he is forgotten.

Massive thumbs up to a player that went from much maligned to a first 5 pick every week.

Go Catters

Yep, that courage last night was on show again; how that was a free kick against him absolutely does my head in. Umpires judge on two players who hit hard,
and the resultant fall out; not that it was a fair attack on the footy.

Terrible decision, highlighted their performance last night.

Tom just amazing man, such a great defender. Just does his bit week in week out. That's all we could ask.

It was a disgrace that the '11 commentators and media kept harping on about the feel good story of the year is that jailbird Krak but Seeing Tom and West and Pods get a medal after all the hard yards and struggles just welled me up.

Tom really deserved that medal and many more I want nothing but the best for the lad an absolute brave man.

Where he was "nearly" hit, there is no kidney.

And yes, he should keep playing. Sam Newman did so for years after losing his. Protection is a lot better now than then.

I think Lonergan played well this year and him going on is fair enough as we need depth but i really hope we dont play 4 KPDs each week as it makes it hard for us to move the ball out of defence.

Either Lonners needs to play mainly vfl and be backup for injuries or Kolo needs to play vfl and come in when the old guys don't play or Taylor or Henderson need to play forward most weeks. 3 talls plus a small defender (a bews or ruggles type assuming guthrie plays midfield) and thurlow and tuohy on the back flanks is a much better mix.

Agree, but they declared some possible scenarios late this season in finals that I think and hope will go ahead next season, ie more of Taylor and/or Hendo at CHF. They are both capable, and we simply have no better short term solutions.
Vardy, Clark, SK all leaving means we have to use our swing players deep forward, OR get Mackie to play there again.
I think there will be multiple options, and no fixed solution but that flexibility is a strength.
And Stanley has shown he is a dangerous option there as well.
I see/hope Blicavs going into the CHB role.

And, Lonergan will hopefully get his 200th next season- really hoping that's in Victoria. Will be there for sure. Champion bloke and player.
