Tom Scully targeted by GWS

Got so angry reading this, no wonder we didn't hire Sheedy, but i feel Tom won't walk out on us after just 2 years!

Yawn.

Having lost Bruce, we will have a bucketload to throw at him next year. Other than money, he'd have no reason to move, particularly if we can give him a final at the 'G to experience in 2011.

no offence why a final at the G won't sway anyone especially if you lose. Regardless of the club.

With our list, if anyone leaves, good luck to them.
It didnt exactly work for Chris Johnson and I cant see it working
for anyone else.

Scully is a gun and will be a future superstar, I cannot blame any side
for chasing a player of Toms calibre, if I was GWS Id be chasing him.

Tom has a lot of draftees around his age and some great mates, Id be
very suprised if any of our players taken the lure of coin.

Also, totally agree on Sydney not being as big of a temptation as GC.

He wouldn't leave, he seems the type to want to stay and forge premierships, not the money chaser.

If Gold Coast had offered Ablett all the money before Geelong had won the flags, he wouldn't have left as there would be no incentive.

First of all, i think its almost inconceivable that Scully would choose to leave the Dees for Western Sydney. But say he did i would love to hear his reasoning behind it. The fact is there would be absolutely no reason for him to go there except the money. At least Ablett's 'needed a new challenge' excuse is partly believable with what he has achieved at Geelong. Swan and Pendles could almost get away with the same if they manage to go back to back next year aswel. So Scully could not use the 'new challenge' excuse as he is yet to achieve anything of real substance at our club, nor could he be enticed by the prospect of joining an exciting young list, as he is already part of one of the most exciting young lists in the comp. His family is in melbourne so he can't play the family card. And he hasn't been thrown around as trade bait recently so he can't use the Rischitelli/Brown grudge card either.

Which just leaves the money. And hey, he could be totally cool with that.

Fortunately for us, i think Scully seems like the type of kid who values loyalty, integrity and honesty over some of the more glamorous temptations out there. If he left, his integrity would take a hit of Bomber Thompson-like proportions.

NEWS FLASH: Rival club interested in recruiting one of the top young players in the competition.....

I don't think he'll go anywhere without Trengove, they seem to be joined at the hip

Apparently great mates with Blease aswel.

But yeah Trengove and Scully are like Simon and Garfunkel or Hamish and Andy, they're a package deal. Would be like buying a new TV without a remote.

The more you look at it, with all his mates at the club, Ron Barassi's number on his back, a more than reasonable pay packet coming his way with a fair bit of room in our salary cap, and a training base near his family home... why on god's green earth would he want to leave?

Players want to win things.

If we're playing finals in 2011, we'll have a proper flag tilt in 2012/3. He's not going to jump ship at that point. Think of the up-and-coming teams currently, Fremantle, North, ourselves - how many did these three teams lose to the GC?

Dee's supporters look at it this way ...what a great vote of confidence in Tom... by an opposition Club. Now you know that you have a jet on your hands.:thumbsu:

He is not going to GWS as said before ... the location is a shit hole ... why would you contemplate moving there..... is it a witness protection program thing ?????

Dont blame Sheedy .... he is only doing his job .

Tom aint going any where.

Would love to have trengrove and scully playing in hoops. Those boys are destined for a solid partnership. They seem to know each other so well that when you see a connecting play you can only sit back and say " yep, good times ahead"

No way you can match the cash to keep him!
Illtell everyone right now.Tom will not be leaving The melbourne Football Club in 2,3,4,5 years regardless that GWS offer him 400k as a 21 year old.

The only way the likes of Tom,3 xJacks and co leave will be 5 years or so away when melbourne have won a flag or 2 and the salary cap forces us to let 1 or 2 go.ala Geelong cats.

our playing group is that close right now with only 1 goal in mind. There not playing just for eachother ,the MFC,there playing for Jim.

That Is The Only Way!

Blease signed for another two year - good mates with Scully.

I think Bruce $300,000 will come in handy.

I don't think he will leave but I do think that his management being aware that he would be a target of GWS Have held off signing an extension to bump up his value & his great first year has only increased that value.

Well, it's hardly surprising that GWS is after one of the mst talented young players in the competition.

If I was responsible for their recruiting, I would go after him too.

Having said that, I don't think Tom will move. He has everything he could possibly want at Melbourne, in that he has great mates at the club, can still be near his family, is located in Australia's best city, has the prospect of achieving great things given the talent on our list and so on.

Why would you want to move to GWS? Shit location, start-up team which will take a while to get going and will be a long way from the people he cares about and grew up with.

Of course, money is a possible explanation, but it isn't as if he'll be struggling to pay his bills once he signs a new contract with Melbourne. He'll probably use this interest from GWS to pump up his wages a bit, and good luck to him, but I can't see the kid leaving, it just wouldn't make much sense.

We saw this coming and front-loaded the contracts of some of our most expensive players. I'm not worried. GWS will throw money at everyone. Scully wouldn't be targetted as their franchise player though. As good as he is and will be in the future, he's not a household name yet, especially in the shithole that is Western Sydney.

Tom seems fairly morally proper too, maybe that'll keep him at the Dees. As well as all the other things that have been mentioned in this thread.

Yawn. Move on. Won't happen. About as much chance as GC signing Jack Watts this year.

"I'm not going to say who, but we've had strange phone calls from guys you think are entrenched in their footy club, and I think that he (Ablett) has done a great job for GWS, put it that way," said Giants recruiting boss Neville Stibbard.

Is this players or managers here? If managers are they general enquiries (which I could understand) or on behalf of certain players?

I suspect GWS' foray into the bs mind games has begun and even if it's true you'd think it does no favours to the players in question, being used as promotional puppets.

If the Dees make a final and lose it in 2011 that does not mean that they are set for a proper tilt at something meaningful.

What do morals have to do with it? He will choose the option that best suits him, whether that is re-sign with MFC, go to GWS or re-enter the draft.
