Injuries aside, who do you think are the top 10 players, as far as abilities and structural importance are concerned, at Collingwood.

Give the best 10 votes, down to the tenth best, with one vote, and I will keep a running tally.

No 10 votes for Martin Clarke either.

My top 10 are as of right now, not including injuries (where I have named two, they are similiar types, but not going to waste two spots on them);

10 Fraser (when he fires in the ruck, we win)
9 Thomas (becoming that 'Rocca-barometer' we need)
8 Clement/O'Brien (If Clement is in, then O'Brien isn't as important)
7 Shaw (our rebound from the backline)
6 Burns (the best clearance player/part-time midfielder in the afl)
5 Lockyer (i dont know, but its whatever he has done all year)
4 Rocca/Cloke (Similiar to Clem/Harry - Rocca more so then Cloke atm)
5 Swan (clearly been our standout midfielder in 07)
2 Didak (his ability and talent alone make him important)
1 Davis (similiar to Thomas to a lesser extent, has the talent to tear a game right open, but rarely does, has had plenty of time, still a decent contributor)

10: Rocca
9: Clement
8: Simon Prestigiacomo
7: Alan Didak
6: Nathan Buckley
5: Josh Fraser
4: Travis Cloke
3: Heath Shaw
2: Dane Swan
1: Dale Thomas

10. Bucks (injurys asside)
9. H Shaw
8. Clement
7. thomas
6. lockyer
5. swan
4. johnson
3. rocca
2. davis
1. fraser

10. Fraser (think you guys would be stuffed without him)
9. Clement
8. Rocca
7. Didak
6. Presti
5. Cloke
4. Shaw
3. Swan
2. Lockyer
1. Buckley

Just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in! :thumbsu:

I dont mean to pick on you Dids, but its just a common trend with alot of the posts on here so I wanted to ask..
Alot have Clement, Presti, Bucks, Didak ect. in their top 10s yet all have missed chucks of this season, yet we have done well without them. So how are they in our top 10 most important players?

10. Clement (Best defender in the league, no explanation needed)
9. H Shaw (Quarterback)
8. Fraser (Needs to break even so we win)
7. Rocca (He's our barometer, not as important as he was several years ago)
6. Swan (He's pretty much our best accumulator)
5. Didak (A match-winner)
4. Cloke ("Go-to" man)
3. Johnson (Breaks the lines)
2. Davis (Defensive pressure has been phenomenal all year)
1. Thomas (Fast becoming very important)

I believe they are. It's just a credit to how well the younger fella's and the coaching staff have been going without them.

It's good to know that 2 of our more important players are yet to have a real impact on the season and then Presti is to come back as well.

Come finals time I would pay to have Presti and Clement out there. More so than Buckley these days, but to have a player like him in reserve is pretty special.

A year or 2 ago our season would have been shot to pieces with these 3 fella's on the sidelines.

I would seriously want Clement and Presti back before heading to September.

Also I found it pretty hard to rate the last 3-4 spots or I should say I thought of a lot of players who you could place on the list eg. Burns, Lockyer, Davis, Pendlebury, O'Bree, R Shaw, O'Brien, Maxwell etc.

But as far as importance goes I don't think their is alot between 1-15 on our list these days.

One bloke who would have been there last year was Ben Johnson. He has fallen away. Is he carrying something we don't know about, because he is struggling a little bit.

Yep. The captaincy.

Should've been given to lockyer or Maxwell

Good Topic :thumbsu:

10/ Buckley (Minus the hammy :))
9/ Clement (Great defender and Vice Captain, AND All-Australian :thumbsu:)
8/ Burns (Clearance work is superb)
7/ Swan (Run though the middle is great, also good in defence)
6/ Lockyear (See above)
5/ Thomas (Future leader of the club, the next Nathan Buckley. Has really ignited a few games this year)
4/ Heath Shaw (Will keep improving the be one of our best players in a few years)
3/ Pendles (As he is a gun and I am getting number 10 on my collingwood jumper :P)
2/ Alan Didak (His skills in the forward line are amazing, he needs to preform a bit better this year... but he's doing alright. It's far from his best)
1/ Neon Leon Davis (Has the most skills I've seen in a while. Problem is he does not do it every week :))

Top 10 most IMPORTANT - 10 = highest

10. Rocca
9. Fraser
8. Cloke
7. Burns
6. H.Shaw
5. Swan
4. Presti
3. Thomas
2. Didak
1. Pendles

The reason I don't include Clement, is that I don't think we NEED him. 12 months ago, he would have been the MOST important I think, but we seem to have covered him no worries. Presti is a problem to cover, because he usually covers the number 1 forward. I think Rocca, Fraser and Cloke are most important just structure wise, Burns for clearance work, H.Shaw for half back run and rebounds. Swan for work around the ground, Thomas and Dids for that special something they bring that lifts the side, as well as their excellent skills and hard work. Pendles cos he is a gun. :D

Just about right IMO, atleast the players anyway :D

No-one has mentioned O'Bree who I think is the key to the structure of our midfield. When O'Bree goes missing (for whatever reason) the team drops off. Burns is effective only in bursts these days (when the sting has gone out of the game in the second half). Agree that Fraser and Rocca are the two most important players.

10. Fraser (not our best, but very much our most important because of the lack of quality ruck stocks... can also cause trouble for opposition teams when going forward)
9. Rocca (not his biggest fan but someone who leads the competition for contested marks is very important)
8. Clement (never gets beaten... star)
7. H. Shaw (sets up so much play from the back... is pivitol)
6. Didak (at his best is the most skillful/creative player in the side)
5. Thomas (the second igniter in the side but gives more than Leon)
4. O'Bree (very important around the clearances)
3. Pendlebury (finds space when others can't... classy)
2. Cloke (growing into his role and supplies the other forwards with so much footy)
1. Swan (just ahead of Tark and Burnsy... finds the footy with ease)

Presti, Tark, Burns, and Johnson were all stiff to miss
