I think that $3.50 is not a bad price for Geelong to make the 8. I think that we will be right up there and pushing, as a matter of fact I might go down the TAB tonight and put $20 on them making the 8.

heheh i put $10 on crawf to win the brownlow, not bad when hes 18 to 1

I'll be bitterly disappointed if we miss out, but then what fan wouldn't be?

Realistically, if we get a good run with injuries, our younger brigade take the next step, our veterans remain solid and we discover magic formula X, then we are pretty good chance of for the top half of the eight. But they are pretty big ifs.

And one other mindset... being able to beat the teams we're supposed to beat, and being competitive (at the very least) against the elite teams of the competition.

Too many times in recent years, Geelong has risen or dropped to the level of its competition.

Case in point last season-- beating Port Adelaide and losing (twice) to the Western Bulldogs. Very inconsistent form, indeed.

This year, we'll be playing Richmond and Carlton twice apiece. That should be 16 easy points-- but only as long as the team on the oval in the blue-and-white hoops shows up to play and goes for the jugular from the opening bounce.

The momentum gathered at the end of last season will be a big bonus, but getting the club in the right mindset and maintaining it week in, week out, that will make all the difference in the world, because the talent is certainly there.

The mental approach means more than one can put a value upon...

That pretty much sums it up. It's make or break time for alot of our players. Potential is a word that can't stick to a player forever, this year is a year for many to prove themselves and stamp their authority on the game.

Yeah, the journalist is a bit of a newbie, still learning the caper...But a reasonable article nonetheless ;)

You blokes should make top 8 . You are not far off. If you had Haynes last year you would have been 8 points better off as IIRC he took a couple of marks and kicked goals in both games late against the E-girls.

Even 12 points wouldnt have jumped 1 ladder position

Good article. I honestly dont think we'll make the eight this year [which means we probably will, last year i thought we were virtual certainties and look what happened. I couldnt believe it when Robert Walls picked us for 16th, stupid carlton/richmond ********].
I have a few reasons which you people can probably counter. Firstly last year apart from Kingy i think we had a great run with injuries, and these things tend to even themselves out. Hell Steve Johnson has done his ankle already!
Secondly, our forward line hasnt improved much at all. Except the addition of Ken Hinkley as forward coach and removal of Norm Dare which is a great move and well overdue.
Lastly I think we lack an experienced midfielder that breaks games open and will help improve the young guns in there.

yup

sammy your last point is probably the main reason we will miss out on the 8
riccardi is our only real experienced midfielder who could provide direction and leadership in the middle
Unfortunately his role is more down fwd with the odd burst in the middle
Our well documented" lack of a star in the middle"is something we will endure again in 2004
Its up to ling corey chappy etc to show the way until the likes of bartel kelly moloney tenace ablett come into their own
When these guys start to take games by the scruff of the neck on a regular basis we will be looking at sustained success.
Bomber regulary lamented the guys lack of belief in themselves last year and as much as it annoys all and sundry its due to inexperience.
