It's an interesting year this year too. For mine any Victorian team finishing 5th-6th this year will have a genuine sniff if they're in form. They likely won't leave the state until Prelim final weekend and if the cards fell right for us, as an example, Sydney finishes top and we finish 6th we'd go MCG, MCG, ANZ (which holds no fears for us) and MCG...

Yup this. Quite possible we get someone like a North week one, and then maybe a Geelong week two or something like that.

Our current form isn't good enough, but if we can get a run-on then who knows...

It's a hypothetical. Instead of 18th getting first pick, 9th does. But it doesn't work in your case.

So I'll pose a different question. You get to play finals from 5th - 8th position OR you get Darcy Moore but don't play finals. So if you finish 5th-8th, you no longer get him.

Which would you choose?

Total lack of thought forcing a change of question, not feasible under the current rules, is as clear as mud and as the Op stated is a massive hypothetical.

Not sure but it would be good if it did. Tanking would be a thing of the past.

I love where your at but we could then be faced with a situation where a side who is borderline bottom 8 lose key personal by injuries with no hope of having any influence during the finals. Then they put the key personal in cotton wool or send them of for surgery for the next season, invest time into the players of the future with the chance of picking up the best player in the land.

Personally I'd like to have my cake and eat it. That would be win the remainder of the home and away whilst playing the kids as well as making the finals and exposing the next generation to finals footy.

Play finals, we dont tank like other clubs to improve our list. Where ever we finish we will pick Darcy Moore so lets play finals, get some more exposure to big games and then when w get a full list with minimal injuries(I bloody hope) we can eye a top 4 spot

It's not about luck, it's about where we finish on the ladder and whether a side rates him prior to that position/ selection.
