Disagree completely on Leunberger. IMO he is a significantly better ruckman than Clarke. Watch the game he played against us this year if you dont agree. That was a better game than Clarke has played in the last three years by a long margin IMO. He also dominated in the next few rounds when Martin was out, demonstrating he could clearly lead the ruck given the opportunity. While in the next year or two Sandy will still be playing the majority of the ruck time I think if we had Leunberger we could rest Sandy forward for longer period in a game. If McCarthy is recruited as the leading target then Sandy playing more forward as a get out long option makes sense. Leunberger is a long way from being a brilliant contested mark when playing forward, but he also doesnt get outmarked as much as the forward playing version of Clarke.

When Sandy retires we then have a lead ruckman to takeover without even giving up a draft pick.

The fact that we have an opportunity to also trade Clarke to me means it is a fantastic business choice to recruit Leunberger IMO.

On the topic of McCarthy and what we need to trade for him then I think it has to link in with what GWS needs for their academy players. If it takes two first rounders (2015 and 2016) and one second round pick next year then so be it. There is simply no other way we can guarantee a decent forward will be recruited to the club.

To get Bennell as well I think we actually have to look at trading a player. Barlow stands out to me as an obvious choice, but Im sure Ill get shot down for suggesting we trade him. The fact is that if Barlow was traded to the Gold Coast he would benefit greatly from the channge in clubs. He would be able to again play in his best position, almost certainly he would earn more money and extend his career. Gold Coast would benefit from having an extractor in the middle and a fantastic role model for their younger players.

If he stays at Fremantle I think it will only be a matter of time before he is replaced by Blakely (Perhaps as early as next year). If Richmond and North are as keen to get Bennell as some say, then it might even take the trade of Clarke to the Bulldogs for their second pick to get the deal done, but Id still make the trade. Passing on the chance to recruit a player like Bennell presents a much greater risk to our future success then offerring a player in the last three years of his career IMO.

If we get Leunberger, Bennell and McCarthy for Clarke, Barlow, two first round and one second round pick then I think we will be in contention again next year, while still recruiting players with plenty of football ahead of them.

I wonder if Schoenmakers might become available after next week, if he is dropped to allow Gunston back in the side, that could be the final straw after missing the last two Grand Finals and his contract expiring this year. Maybe he might look elsewhere. We could do a straight swap using Z. Clarke, the Hawks will need to replace Hale at the end of the season.

Yeah definitely. But it'll be harder to lure Leunburger over if he thinks he might not get a game and will be played out of position as a Fwd/Ruck. He goes to Sydney and he's No1 ruck.

The suggestion of trading Barlow by some is way off the mark IMHO. He is even a possible transition captain before Fyfe. Barlow is a on-field leader. No way we break up our mid-field legion by trading Barlow. That's my two cents. As much as Jetta and Bennell would be great to get we have to address the scoring power. We need KPF's. Leuenburger is an interesting prospect.

The problem is that trading McCarthy in ( for a retiring Pav) puts us in the same position we have been in for the last 10 years. 1 Key forward surrounded by spuds, meaning the key forward will be double teamed and all of here will be calling for his head.
Personally I would love to see Pav (if his body can take it) go 1 more year as our number 2 tall. Then Tabener and Mayne can earn their spots instead of getting them gifted because their is no one else.

Add Apness into the mix we may just come out of it with an OK forward line.

Ross can argue all day long, but that dropped mark is on his head.

Throughout the season we have seen Sheridan struggled in defence, yet he kept persisting with him because he didn't want to replace his beloved D.Pearce/Suban/MDB in the midfield with Sheridan.

Furthermore that didn't kill the game, it was Mayne and Ballas who cost us. Ballas is an idiot, we all know umpires are biased against us, yet he decides to do shit in their attacking 50.

Oh please, it ain't no state secret!! Our recruiting team/the media/plenty of supporters could tell you what every other team is trying to do as well. We probably already know what GWS want first up.

McCarthy is contracted so why would they trade him for peanuts?

They traded Tom Boyd with him saying he wanted out and they still got a good deal for him. If we offer our average first and a spud then GWS would just laugh.

Also, don't forget that the will be a heap of trades done this year and the 'exchange rate' for players will be worked out pretty quickly. i.e. If Treloar is worth this then that means Yarran is worth that and why did that team play that much for Jetta when Redden is worth that etc....

If we don't pay then we would get anybody IMO.

To me it's clear now that it was a tactical error to not put more pressure on west coast when it came to then recruiting Cripps, Wellingham and Yeo. Media reports never had us a chance for those guys and west coast basically got sweet deals because of it. Expect west coast to try and drive up the price of all of our targets this year though.

If you don't spread the word then the clubs and players don't know you're in the market.Makes sense to scream it from the tree tops.
