No ones saying they're already guns but Fletch and Talia have shown as much as pretty well any defenders in the league their age. Let's not pay a big premium to push one of them out of the team. They both suit our style and compliment each other.

Affordable role players are just as important in any premiership tilt as the high priced stars.

Roberts reads the play so well in defence, makes great decisions, has strong hands, a good leap and is one of the best ball users on the list.

He's just not as quick and powerful as you'd like in the ideal key defender.

He really really suits the drinks zoning defence though. He doesn't get caught in the wrestle, or stung on the lead as much. He's great 3rd man up, and again, his decision making in the zone D situation is fantastic.

I think it's best if both Roughy and Roberts are able to pinch hit forward and get plenty of practice doing so this year. Both are more than capable defenders, particularly in a zone set up and both can go forward but don't have a lot of exposed form there at the moment (need some more exposure to help identify the KP (type) we should be pursuing later) Roughy is unique in that he can comfortably play ruck, defend or spell in the forward line and provide a contest which is enough in short stints when our smalls are so lethal.
Injury free and all available, Talia, Roberts and Hamling can all fit in the backline in a set up where Roughy is no1 ruck IMO. Roughy can then go back (covering opp ruck resting forward) or go forward while Boyd rucks maintaining height and a contest up forward. If he goes back, Roberts should have the capability of providing the tall option forward whilst Boyd rucks and Roughy defends. I think it's very workable in a zone defence with the players we already have on our list. An injury to any one of them creates a problem though so we need cover. But do we need a KPD, Ruck or KPF. I always favoured KPD this year, but seeing how Roberts and Hamling (and the zone defence generally) performed even without Talia (it held up well), I'm not sure we'll know for a few rounds yet.

As much praise needs to go to the mids and forwards for pressuring the **** out of every entry. Otherwise it doesn't matter who is down back. Footy is amazing these days 1 or 2 weak links and everything breaks down.

Need to see who performs better out of big will or our defensive unit. Who stands up and who doesn't. Roughead/Dixon combination makes for good reading. With Dixon we would have an irresistible forward line!! Think the Boyd/Dixon/Stringer combination could work with all 3 spending time at CHF/Full Forward etc.

Could definitely co-exist. And roughie/Dixon would be a nice ruck combo.
