Who has the attitude and determination to play AFL football at the highest level. I don't think its Watts doesn't want it enough to do the hard work and make the sacrifices.

Agree he hasn't shown much more than glimpses at Melbourne. But have you ever met a happy mortician? How hard must it be to get enthused in a cold, emotionless pit of stench. Getting drafted by them would be like being born in Syria, not much future at all.
I believe we open the door to this "refugee" and help him flourish in our exciting style of game. What have we got to lose? Plus we are helping an unfortunate.

From what I understand we're not making a real effort to keep him.
We might be able to keep him on a cheap/nominal two year deal - on the basis he might be willing to stay if he gets more playing time here than elsewhere.

All the more reason to look very hard at drafting to fill a need with our first pick, rather than religiously going with best available. I dont expect Dal to pass on the next Bont or Stringer for a serviceable tall, but if the next Bont or stringer isnt there at pick 11, then I would rather a serviceable key defender or forward rather than another serviceable mid or flanker.

I dont expect Dal to pass on the next Bont or Stringer for a serviceable tall, but if the next Bont or stringer isnt there at pick 11, then I would rather a serviceable key defender or forward rather than another serviceable mid or flanker.

But that can only be judged subjectively mate. There's a major possibility that an injured Stringer or a late blooming Bonts will be there at pick 11 (or whatever thereabouts we have). With the amount of clubs that traditionally go 'safe' the odds are on our side.

EDIT especially with at least two, maybe three Academy players going before our first pick

I see the similarities between Watts and a Mortician but even a Mortician would take pride in his work and strive to improve.... I don't see this in Jack.

Probably the club dealing with Dodoro at the moment. I don't understand how average footballers like Dawes, Lumumba and now Melksham can get these contracts.

As a recruiter though, I think he'd get another job. They've recruited well for a number of years.
