Don’t understand the hate for Gardner. He was thrown to the wolves, debuting a week after being drafted and playing two difficult games and was at least serviceable in one of them. Good players have had far less impressive starts to life as an AFL footballer. I think he’ll prove a lot of doubters wrong if given another go around next season.

Whilst Keath would be handy I'm hoping the club has more lined up. Is the 2020 crop better than what's out there this year?

I get the feeling that as usual we will be disappointed come end of trade period. We probably might catch a smart pickup like we have with Crozier/Lloyd in particular but again we will miss out on the bigger names like Darling/ B.Hill etc. obviously big names don’t automatically equal success but we are at a stage where we need to find several best 22 players.

Hoping we throw a curveball. How bout a 900k/6y deal at Hugh Mcluggage. We are on the look out for a classy wingman. Let’s shake the tree.

The time is now to go extremely hard at several names.

I’m guessing the interest in Keith confirms the long term plan for Naughton to remain forward long term. Both really play that same role of the intercepting KPD not the lock down role.

Also I suspect Adelaide would go after Aaron Francis again, if they lost Keith.

A statistical comparison of Shaun Burgoyne (Port Adelaide) vs Jack Martin (as at today)

Games:
157 vs 96
Seasons: 8 vs 6

Averages from the above:

Disposals: 16.1 vs 16.4 JM by 0.3
% contested: 42% vs 41%. SB by 1%
Marks: 3.2 vs 5.0. JM by 1.8
Marks i50: 0.72 vs 0.84. JM by 0.12
Goals: 1.09 vs 0.83. SB by 0.26
Goals accuracy (versus behinds scored): 62% vs 62% No doff
Tackles: 3.4 vs 3.7 JM by 0.3

Obviously the stats don’t tell all - SB played in a really good team (2 GFs during that time), and disposal effectiveness isn’t available - but an interesting and VERY close comparison...

Good to see the Keath train is picking up speed. Toot toot.

Since Keath played footy rather late professionally, this should extend his career a bit to mid-30s.

We have to recruit him for the player we think he will be in our system, not the player he currently is (which is hard to judge because of injury and beong played out og position).

What position do you think he would be best utilised? At the moment he’s used as half inside mid/ half forward so if he was to continue in that role for us I don’t think he’s worth it.

Can we fast forward to trade period already?
Bloody instant gratification generation!

No, I'm sorry mate. Just like the rest of us, you have to grind your way through the purgatory of another 16,054 repetitive posts. It's like the dream that goes on and on and on and you can't quite achieve what you set out to do at the start of the dream.

It's pretty amazing when you think about it, really. There are only 800 players in the AFL, yet somehow we're up to 12,000 posts talking mostly about potential trades from some other club's list.
