Someone did anyway. My point being that these days - more than in the past - a recently signed contract isn't a guarantee that the player is locked away or "ungettable".

In some ways the renewal can be a smart move for both club and player, even if both are anticipating a move.

Correct aswell as schache signing with Brisbane 4 months before being traded

I'm completely fine with offering our first this year plus steak knives. He's still got a few years on the contract though, so they'd likely just shut the door in our faces and leave it at that. Money would be no issue for us

Adams signed for 3 years in 2017 (to bring him through to 2020) then requested a trade the following year. Schache signed an extension at the Lions, then 2 months later requested a trade to us.

It's not the end of the world if a player is contracted, but it does help the club if they want to play hardball

Keath would be ideal. Sure up that defensive post for the next 5 years

The Keath link is a new one, hopefully there's truth to it. Turning Bailey Williams into Keath would be a very good result for us

Agree, but if Sam Power could do that I'd give him 10 out of 10!

Isn't Keath being talked about in AA terms right now? It'd need to be Williams plus a lot more than steak knives.

The age difference is the key. Keath will be worth slightly more, but given the 5-year age difference (Keath is 28 next year, Williams will be 23) it won't be as much as if they had been the same age. I'd imagine we might have to throw something extra in (downgrade our 25 for their 29, or once they've made other trades we could end up downgrading one of our 3rds for a 4th from them). I don't expect us to have to throw in too much with Williams - at most Pick 45

I’m not one for getting rid of JJ at all.

BUT

Does releasing JJ allow for us to play Richards in his natural position, whilst also being able to get Hill in who can help with our forward entries.

JJ has proven over the years that he is not the man for playing further up the field.

Wasn't Mitch Cleary the original source of the Tippa to the Dogs rumour? And now these guys are saying we "might" be one of those clubs? This honestly reads to me like they're covering themselves if anyone calls them out on having made things up in the first place. Could just be me reading too much into it, but this really does bring serious doubt into the Tippa rumour for me

Im a big fan of us trying to get Tippa but im of the opinion that he is doing this to add a bit of extra money onto his contract with Essendon and there isnt a high chance he actually makes a move. More than happy to be proven wrong though, have been a big fan of Tippa for a while now. Butler and Baker are the ones Id want us to sink our teeth into if Tippa falls through, with Papley obviously being a good choice without us being linked

Pretty sure they just read BF trade threads and get ideas from there. Or just doing what we do - take an out of contract player, figure out which clubs would suit him, then claim that the club "might" or "should" go after a player, then try to pass it off as some kind of inside source on the matter so they get some of that clickbait action.

In my 20 year old head that hasnt played huge amounts of footy I think that part of the fatigue he wont be experiencing is the competitive drive, hes only now made it to the first class level proper and (may?) have the drive of a younger person because of that. But what do I know

People keep saying Cordy would be better as the third tall, and I agree, but is there any way we actually play 3 talls? We'd have to cut/move one of our rebounders and I don't see us doing that. We love them so much that at one point we had Cordy and Wood as our KPDs to fit in Williams for the extra pace. Now if we had a KPD like Moore or Sicily I could see us doing it but otherwise I'm not sure we'd go for that.

Don't know a lot about Keath. Is he like Lever where he gets to run around unchecked because Talia does all the heavy lifting or does he hold his own?

In my head the "3rd tall" is Easton and then we surround those with run and carry types. I like Cordy because hes a son of a dog, but have found myself increasingly annoyed with him whether its ball in hand or getting caught out. Does a lot of good but unfortunatly a bit of bad.

Keath benefits from Talia being there but pulls more of his weight than Lever does. Lever was all around intercepting which isnt what Melbourne clearly had him marked for. Talia also had a slimmer season this year it looks like, and Hartigan doesnt look any quicker nor the Crows structures quite as good as when Lever was dominating, so he definitly has to earn more of his own ball

Keath's got great closing speed, maintains skill under pressure, very athletic. Not sure how he goes in one on one situations as I haven't watched enough of him to get a proper impression, but he is right near the top of the tables for intercept possessions in the league, so I imagine he is pretty good in this area. Keath would surely be the number 1 preference if we actually are interested

We had asked the question on weitering. He won't be leaving Carlton though unless they get offered something ridiculous

Now wouldn't be a bad time to go balls out to secure a key piece of the puzzle. If he can be convinced to come across.
We have plenty of great young talent coming through. A key defensive pillar would make a big difference to us structurally

Fully agree. Our spine is the youngest in the league, with not a single veteran unless you count Trengove. We have the pieces, but really do need something solid down back. I'm optimistic about Lewis Young eventually filling a role down back, but until then, picking up a highly rated 22-23 year old would be a great move towards slingshotting us up the ladder

Keath does seem more of an interceptor than a true key back whenever I’ve watched him. Not sure he’d replace/upgrade on Trengove.
