Power has set Lip’s price at a 2nd rounder.

Can you see a way he gets it? If I’m Collingwood I do a cheaper deal with North to ensure I get him through the preseason draft. North’s desire to take CCJ means it probably wouldn’t take much to get him through that back door.

It will be a 3rd and a 4th or 5th for points. We cant expect a second rounder for a player we refuse to play. I hope he goes really well at the pies, kid has talent just needs opportunity.

Would a fair price for Lip be:

Lynch + Pies 2022 third round?
Honestly I think it gets done for the Pies 2022 3rd rounder alone. We've started negotiations at a 2nd, they can offer a 4th and make threats of PSD, then everyone meets in the middle by us getting an early 3rd and the Pies not losing any points this year.

He's 22, played 55 games in 4 years in a team were there is strong competition for his type and has a 3 year offer from multiple clubs.

To my thinking that equates to a high 30s/40ish pick, which is late 2nd/early 3rd range. Asking for a 2nd round pick as an opening gambit seems perfectly reasonable.
It's hard to work out his value as he falls somewhere between a high value target and a discarded player.
Someone like Jye Caldwell who was stuck behind a similarly deep midfield, went for 2 seconds however there was a first round premium attached to him.

Looking at some recent historical trades to try to establish a precedence, I would say Hugh Greenwood 2020 might be the best player comparison - although Gold Coast having an abundance of draft picks skews that value a little.
Greenwood went to Gold Coast for a future third and a future fourth (both high being attached to GC).

Some other trades that I would suggest set a value on Lipinski:
Oleg Markov > GC for future 3rd
Lachlan Fogarty +38 > CAR for 30 + 51
Nakia Cockatoo > BRI for MELB future 3rd
Alex Witherden + 86 > WC for 58 + future 3rd

Lewis Taylor > SYD for 48
Tom Cutler + 64 > ESS for 72 + future 3rd
Zak Jones + 56 + future 4th > STK for 32 + 76 + FREO future 3rd
Aiden Bonar + future 4th > NTH for future 3rd
James Aish + 69 + future 3rd > FREO for STK future 2nd + STK future 4th

I would suggest that perhaps a future 3rd + a future 4th would be market value for Lipinski, or a future 2nd with a future 3rd back the other way.
However with the genuine threat of the PSD and the potential for Collingwood wanting to save face after last year I think a future 3rd would be a good result.

I would be surprised IF Lynch doesn’t come out and nominate us. I have been expecting it since Lipinski nominated Pies.

I wouldn't argue if he wanted to come here, just not expecting it yet as we're yet to hear anything public. Best case scenario then, we'd get Lynch + future 4th

Gary Dempsey has been spotted running laps at WO, and has engaged a manager. Make of that what you will, but it's all a smokescreen. The real interest has been Zoom meetings between Bevo, Hansen and a Brownlow medallist who used to wear #14.

Surely Goldstein makes the most sense of anyone in the league.

The bloke isn’t winning a flag at North and our midfield is ready now.

One of those ones that makes too much sense it won’t happen.

Unless you look at it from Goldsteins perspective.

A perspective that may value team and club loyalty above that of illusory personal glory.

Lynch is 'short' for a ruckman but is in the top 5 for Collingwood's time trial which is incredible for a guy his size, so he can cover the ground which is an important consideration for us
Has “potential CHB” written all over him then.
( I have never seen him play so I mean that figuratively. If he does have anything written all over him it is probably one of those Tibetan type tatts)

It’s an interesting question - like yourself I don’t know anything about him really but super athletic, smallish for a ruck but a huge tank and a great contested mark. Definitely sounds like he could be a good option at CHB, doesn’t suit Pies there though as they already have two 200cm defenders

Ladhams makes so much sense. We don’t need a dominant ruck, we just need someone who won’t get dominated. He’s very good around the ground.

Ladhams/English locked away for the next decade sets us up so well.
Given that Sam doesn't trade 1sts willingly future 2nd and something else maybe what we get for Lippa if it's a pick. Would that be enough to get a deal done?

This year we've signalled we might play a little differently, so a future first for a player + 2021 picks (matching Darcy bid) might be in play.
I expect the Pies to play hardball over Lipinski and won't give us a future 2nd. With North chasing both CCJ & Kreuger, Collingwood's PSD threat is real and they need to save face after last years' disaster of a trade period.

I’d be happy to do our current first with points coming back. It won’t be additional or even equal points coming back our way but would allow Port to get a decent pick for him, and us to salvage a few points out of the deal.

I’m not the slightest bit concerned about having enough points for Darcy. Should be fairly straightforward to trade futures into this year, even as late as draft night. And then next year, we can trade 2023 picks into 2022 if we feel the need. You can just perpetually trade forward future picks if you need to. Even in the worst case scenario we go into deficit, just trade our future first for a couple of seconds. The deficit comes off our first available pick, if we don’t have a first it will just come off the earliest second we hold. There’s so many paths we can go down and all of them lead to drafting Darcy
