Trade report: Stars who could be poached from your club

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Tim English isn’t far from a new deal, Caleb Daniel is inching closer too and Bailey Dale wants to stay even if rivals would offer more.

Josh Dunkley is in his own contact talks and while Bailey Smith’s talks haven’t started there is absolutely no suggestion his future isn’t at the Dogs.

And yet for all of those priorities the Dogs’ clear intent is to bring in another key back and key forward.

The Rory Lobb ruck-forward type would be perfect to compliment the Dogs given Josh Bruce is returning but is 30 next week and coming off an ACL tear.

A Griffin Logue-Darcy Gardiner type stopper would be perfect for the back six.

The Dogs have some key position backs across the league they believe they could turn into key forwards if they could acquire them but it’s not apparent exactly who those players are.

Do we seriously have all of Dunks, Daniel, Dale, English and Smith out of contract this year?! Three of those will be needing significant pay rises. There's not going to be any room left in the cap for any Griffen Logue type signings unless someone leaves.

Joel Hamling is playing WAFL at present. Doubt he would cost much either.

This is where good club culture comes in to it. And hoping Baz is getting his snout wet enough through sponsorship $$$.

Fingers crossed we don’t lose any, but if I had to pick 1, it’ll be Daniel. It pains me to say it but he’s playing like he’s got one foot already out the door.

I think we’ll give Dale extra years to soften the per annum cost. I’d say 4 years which would take him to 30 years old (he is sneakily 26 this year).

Baz is interesting as I don’t think he gets a Sam Walsh type deal but obviously is in line for a large pay bump.

How about we just recruit a key back and play them as one?

Cosmo Kramer Mind Blown GIF

Perhaps we'll move on others?

Wood off the books, JJ & Wally contact reductions, Schache contract reduction, Keath reduction, McLean reduced contact.

Baz is the one that I'm most fearful of, someone like the Bombers/Hawks or even Kangaroos (less likely) can and should be all in on this kid and have the money we don't?

It's basically impossible to comment on with all the shuffling they can do between years, front-ending, back-ending. No one thought we had dollars left over after signing Bruce and Keath and we went out and spent $600k p.a. on Treloar the next year.

If we sucked and he or his management had made noise about being unhappy, sure. But by all accounts he loves the club, has good relationships there and has a clear path to a full time midfield roll once Libba is done and/or Dunkley leaves. Plus his mega deal is waiting in 4 years time, not now. Also thank you Monster energy drinks and Cotton On for giving him big $$$ outside of footy.

Wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of our guys our announced as signed during the bye week.

Another review at Essendon. I reckon they’ll try and spend plenty on one of Dunks, Hopper, Taranto.

If I were them I'd be going for Hopper, but my guess is it'll end up being Taranto. Should be easier to extract players out of GWS than Dunkley out of the dogs - given current/potential performances and the Treloar friendship.

That said, wouldn't surprise me if Dunkley left if the offer is significant.

Baz like Bont makes a shit load of cash outside of football meaning they take unders to be in a challenging team not a rebuilding dud one

Extremely confident in Dunks staying.
