Logues had a bit of a stinker today - he’s obviously not a forward so bit harsh but I’m really not rating his skillset tbh, I hope we aim higher

Cox on the other hand looks like an absolute gem

Smith is a potential Brownlow winner (ex headbuts). Would never suggest letting him go. Reckon it was the muller Irishman nutted him in the previous scuffle and head butted him but being baldish it didn’t look as bad as someone shaking out a blanket. No mullet no three weeks! Get a haircut and show you are about the team and the hard work.

But seriously, these are young blokes who did the same stupid sh!T as we all did without everyone telling us how brilliant we are everyday. This is when the club stands up - gets behind him and develops him into the young leader he can be. Would have preferred we weren’t dealing with this but this can be the turning point for him.

We all know what need - a current KPD to replace Keath - really only Payne is 195-+ and 100kgs to play on big KPF. Cox from Freo is perfect but they would be insane to let him go. Otherwise best mid sized KPDs targets are Ballard, Hamling, Logue, (will go for kid KPD in draft also). Am OK with McAsey as a roughy / just smells of kid wanting to come home and get a breath of fresh air.

Darcy could be a Pearce like FB and am happy that he a Schache fight for the tall forward/second ruck and tall KPD. Watching the VFL - this was Schache’s best game by far - he could have kicked 8 - missing two he was very close to but also killing some good rucks around the ground when he went in to ruck (taps still poor but he made them pay elsewhere). Still believe Bruce/Naughty/Schache is a great group of tall KPFs and by end of next year could be JUH/Naughty/Schache depending on how Bruce ages - he is fit and could be like Lynch and keep contributing till 35 - also expect that when Bruce retires Bont will go forward - Naught, Bont/JUH with Schache:Darcy rotating and ruck - either way forward line is fine for 5-10 years.

In defence - flankers are good and will just get better. KPDs today are Keath 30ish, TOB 30ish and Gardner young. If we fast forward it is very uncertain and this needs addressing: Darcy/Schache, Raak/Parker and Gardner/Cordy- no real locks in this. I would not be surprised if they give JUH a run in defence to build his contact work. Or they keep fiddling with Darcy/Schache - forward and back. Clearly need at least one more lock - preferable Keath size.

Others are important but next in priority.

Ruck back up (though sweet held his own and will hit his soon which is OK). Meek is my favourite - big and solid tap ruckman- can’t get a game because he is behind an elite ruck. Would love a DeKoning but they are now looking like priorities for their teams.

Small forward; today we only really McNeil. West is playing there and so is Mccomb but both are Mids. Once Libba slows down West/García will go straight in - the one who doesn’t will go forward for a few years. So manageable but want a panic inducing threat - Cameron, Walters, Gray, type. Weightman, Hannan etc give us Papley type.

Fast winger (really impressed with how Bedendo is developing - in VFL he is now backing his breakaway speed and is great in the air and when a Hunters comes back we get an accumulator - if not I would like to see Daniel given extended time there. With our mids- playing Smith and Trelor there works well for us. Butler is still developing also. Don’t think we need much.

For our draft - we will always take the next player with our first - long term a larger mid to replace Bont/Macrae in 4-5 years maybe or KPD.

Fergus Greene leading the VFL goalkickers list with 30.11 from 9 games (20 goals from his last 5). If we want specialist forwards in the forward line not just converted midfielders then I’d have him back on the list over Hannan on a minimum contract.

Does he have any defensive game? I think Bevo likes Hannan as he can at least hold his own in that respect, and can also get involved on the wing.

I know he had some injury concerns but I thought he would have got another contract with us.

Oozes X factor and can take strong contested marks. Someone will pick him up and he will do well.

Are there examples where someone is delisted but years later gets another crack at the same team?

That would require me to watch Box Hill games and not just look at the stats sheet :). In all seriousness I don’t remember his defensive game being a knock on him when he was with us but it might have been. Has elite endurance so it would only be application. Hannan’s defensive game is running hard to defend space but he can’t stick a tackle.

Only one that comes to mind is Sam Reid at GWS who was on their list 2012-2013 and then 2016-2021. Pretty sure he stayed involved at the club in 2014-2015 in a development / VFL capacity though.

I don't think Greene has enough tricks to make it. We tried to play him up the ground to develop other skills but that didn't work out so we let him go. Leave him one out in the forward line with space at that level and he will kick goals for fun. At AFL level with numbers rolling back and against better opponents I don't think he has the ground ball game to impact or the leap and height to mark a high ball. I think we should look elsewhere.

I'd like us to look at Sam Sturt from Freo. High draft pick that's had injury troubles. He's also out of contract and may want to come home. Can't see him costing much.

I’m a big Meek fan. He’s easily the best “backup” ruck in the afl and would push being the number 1 ruck at a few clubs. He’s probably not the right foil for English as they are both better/want to play primarily ruck.

What are North doing with their rucks? Even with Goldy gone they have Xerri, Coleman-Jones, Edwards and Comben (appreciating CCJ and Comben are forward/rucks).

I suspect the plan is for Edwards to eventually go past Xerri but Xerri himself is only 23. Coleman-Jones and and Comben presumably can’t both exist alongside Larkey. Coleman-Jones has the big contract but I wouldn’t mind targeting Edwards or Comben.

Tarryn Thomas anyone?

We had our chance with that but we preferred Hannans rather than natural forwards

AFL list analysis: Western Bulldogs trade targets, contracts latest

Western Bulldogs made waves when they signed Adam Treloar from Collingwood. But, there’s another Magpie who would suit their needs even better. See our full list analysis. Can anyone get passed the payroll it’s a herald sun article

McStsy , Logue & Darcy Cameron are the 3 trade targets that they are suggesting.
Logue would be my priority as he fills the
KPD that we most desperately need. Although if Bevo would play Cameron I would go after him

Comben is more forward than ruck and is one I'm seen play decent football before.
Having a stinker this year but most of their list are. I'd consider him
