Great result locking Caleb away. Would have been playing on unders up until now. Well deserved. Timmy's contract puts pressure on the dogs to be a contender again in the next two years, or he will walk for a big pay day.

A player who’s two years away from free agency is going to sign a two-year deal. It doesn’t make any sense to do otherwise.

Did Max Gawn walk? Why do we automatically assume he would walk?
What's the alternative? We enter the sweepstakes for Dan McStay and pay just as much for him as we just have for Caleb Daniel? I know which player ai'd prefer as a proven performer. Not all that thrilled with either to be honest. I was hoping for the rumored three year deal for Tim. 2 years will fly by and we'll be back in the exact same situation again very soon, except with absolutely no leverage and a free agent English.
Caleb has shown to be a real liability this year and is very replaceable IMO. The years and contract are fine only if it's not at the expense of other players.

TBH I too would take the AA, B&F winning player (Caleb) and just sign a mongrel ruck/forward from the state league. What's the alternative? We enter the sweepstakes for Dan McStay and pay just as much for him as we just have for Caleb Daniel? I know which player ai'd prefer as a proven performer.
Are we really saying that Dan McStay's a better footballer than Caleb Daniel? Really?Which player do we need more McStay or Daniel?
McStay comes with a bigger risk but it not as though he is playing VFL. He holds his place at The Lions
BTW I think McStay will remain at the Lions

We need the significantly better footballer lolQuestion is what type of player do we need more? McStay type or Caleb Daniel type?
I would have liked a bit longer but it’s not the worst thing. I think we’ll either still be challenging then or facing a turnover of the list, and I think that’ll decide what he wants to do. I think he’ll stay if we’re in flag contention. Not all that thrilled with either to be honest. Who has left a club looking to play for a contender when they are well recompensed at their current club? Not many, I wouldn't have thought. Ok, Nathan Buckley...Great result locking Caleb away. Tom Lynch, Steven May, Jake Lever, Shiel just a couple that spring to mind of recent times.Who has left a club looking to play for a contender when they are well recompensed at their current club? Not many, I wouldn't have thought. Ok, Nathan Buckley...![]()
It’s based on what Sam Edmund reported. No indication of what Tim is earning but at the end of the day it’s irrelevant as we aren’t privy to the amounts of the contracts of other players in the cap.Does anyone have “good” info on the dollars for each contract? Or is the mentioned amount based solely on what a BF poster thinks is appropriate?
If there was going to ever be the lure of going home it is now, given his partner spends a good chuck of the year in Perth.Max Gawn didn't have the lure of going "home", you would hope he doesn't, but like Dog36 says they should plan for it now.
Think it’s safe to say that unless a bomb hits the Whitten Oval we will not be looking at a list turnover in 2 years.I would have liked a bit longer but it’s not the worst thing. If we’re at the point of a reset then as long as there’s good compo on offer (which I think there would be) I could live with him going.
Much happier with this than a Grundie-like albatross.
Rather see him forward where he started. He's good at pinpointing targets and can collect the ball at ground lvl then distribute to a player in a better position. He might be able to learn to crumb goalsGreat seeing us sign Tim and Daniel
Now time for Daniel to play as a winger and never in defense again
Darcy and Jamarra should be playing some good footy by thenThink it’s safe to say that unless a bomb hits the Whitten Oval we will not be looking at a list turnover in 2 years.
Netball season runs for 3 months. If there was going to ever be the lure of going home it is now, given his partner spends a good chuck of the year in Perth.
I’m reasonably bullish but two years from now Hunter, Macrae, Bont, Dale, Daniel Treloar etc will be in their late 20s and Bruce, Libba, JJ and Keath will be into their 30s and possibly retired.Think it’s safe to say that unless a bomb hits the Whitten Oval we will not be looking at a list turnover in 2 years.
