Surely the conditions played into the number of spoils? It’s impressive and all, he didn’t play bad, but was never the answer.

The conditions didn't work to the advantage of the forwards. Also Lynch just came back from injury. Young could do as he pleased.

Young has had a pretty decent start to his career at the blues. Has had some good games this year so far. We stuffed that one up imo.

Ridiculous that Carlton have only given him a set position and haven’t moved him around to all the other positions available

People should watch Cordy’s game against Lynch r6 last year and Gardiner game against Lynch r4 this year before sinking the boot in.
Bring back premiership defender Fletcher Roberts!

Lynch and Riewoldt combined for 5 goals and 6 marks from 78 I50s tonight.

They had 6 goals and 12 marks from 48 I50s against us in Rd 4.

Yet Lewis Young and his second most spoils in a match ever sucks apparently though.
Yes because windy pissing down rain is perfect key forward weather. Lynch kicked 3 and had 8 score involvements as a key forward in atrocious weather you either didn't watch the game or are just anti everything we do because Young was well beaten

Young has well and truly been thrown to the wolves but you can’t judge him based off last night. I still don’t think he will elevate his game to be best 22 (his kicking is beyond awful) long term though. Also Tom Lynch routinely destroys our entire defence as well.

Ah yes, the wind must have blown the ball into his fist 22 times.

Its funny how you lot think that Lewy Young would be a defender in our team

Only cos Bevo would have him rucking. Gardner gets a game every week and he lauding for being being right up there in spoils for the year. Young is no worse than Gardner.

I thought a lot of it had to do with attitude, Young was a bit lazy, while Gardiner is not the most talented but his work rate and willingness to learn can’t be faulted.

It’s true.

Some people counter that it doesn’t matter how you train, as long as you produce on game day.

That can be a culture killer. You want your most talented to still be working hard to get even better, so having a lazy one being gifted games…. kind of goes counter to team improvement by training.

So are we saying that Lewis Young was soft, shite and lazy ?

He’s got time on his side, but Young was definitely on the softer side. He even shat the bed a couple of times last night when the pressure went right up in the last quarter, including dropping a regulation chest mark intercept.

He may get there, but there’s many comparisons that could be made to him & Schache

What do people think Hayden Crozier does next? 2 x Top 10 B&F finishes in 2018 and 2019 before signing a 3 year extension presumably on good money given his form before the 2020 season (still contracted for 2023) and then seemingly falling off a cliff.

Does anyone else pick him up for 2-3 years for basically free at the trade table? He’s good depth but with all the re-signings to do clearing his salary might be useful if he’s not in the frame for getting games.

Unfortunately for Crozier, Richards and/or O'Brien are now preferred. His VFL form has been very solid and has stood out in recent games. I agree about him being good depth but I'm not sure he would want to spend another year running around in the VFL.
Roarke Smith is another contracted for next year and his form has been nowhere near as good as Croziers. A tough stance would be to encourage both to seek better opportunities elsewhere.

Not sure anyone would want Smith. He's always been just a role player, we would probably have to pay him out and delist. I don't think that will happen.

Crozier has a bit more to give, maybe someone like the Gold Coast would be interested. It wouldn't be hard to tell him to look elsewhere given Cleary has been preferred over him. I think Vandermeer should be moved back to the back line as well since that was where he starred as a junior.

I'm surprised they haven't tried shifting him forward. Played mainly forward for Freo and has the tools to be a decent defensive forward who provides an aerial contest.
When he's so far down the pecking order in defence and the forward line is a problem it seems worth a try.

He's still able to take an intercept mark but I just don't trust him with ball in hand afterwards. He has more to give but it'd be for the best for him to move to another team since Cleary is looking like he'll move in front of him very soon.
