Cordy due to lack of key backs. Agreed on Wallis.
Agree with you but you forgot to add an important additional reason - with our recent history we seem certain to get an abnormally high number of injuries to our first choice players. ( I still want a review of our medical and conditioning department)

If we are serious about the ruck, Kieran Straughan dominated again in the SANFL.
Don't remind me. I was into him last year until he signed in September 2021.
We're not getting a 1st ready to go ruck this trade period while English is at the club.

Being reported that Freo have offered Luke Jackson 10.5m over 7 years. Seems a massive offer given they already have Sean Darcy unless they are convinced he is going to leave given Darcy isn’t a ruck forward where a 50/50 split would work

Has English actually resigned? It was reported he had signed a 2 year deal, but if so, why they haven't they put it on the website? The other resignings all got put up straight away on the website.

Star ruckman Tim English is yet to put pen to paper, but he is set to turn his back on offers from home in Western Australia and finalise a new deal soon. Inside Trading article said this about his contract

Genuine question and not looking to pot anyone , who would be the person who made the decision to trade for O’Brien? I assume Bev has final approval ( maybe with Grant and/or Power) just interested in whose role it is. Also is it the same person who nominates who we will draft?

It’s the Vezpremi rule for trading. Play 1 good against us and we will trade for you. Plenty of others

Collective decision I’d say. Can’t be too mad, it’s far too early to judge Tim, though I suspect he won’t reach any greater heights than what we saw at the Hawks. The track record for trades/free agents since Bevos arrival has been pretty good.

Only very obvious miss is Jackson Trengove and an argument can be made for Schache but we didn’t spend a lot there.

Would explain why Jordan Lewis was going on about turning down big offers when he was playing. Melbourne must be seriously worried.

We cannot improve unless we are able to get some young players with talent. Cordy has a ceiling which is never going to be exceeded and is only 194cm.

Keath is 31, O’Brien 28 and Gardiner 25.

We desperately need quality kpd’s for the next five years- might as well start now.

Sam Darcy?

O'Brien was a DFA signing brought in to address or lack of intercept marking power.
Wood retired and Crozier was in decline, it's exactly the type of freebie deal we should always look at

The question is IF we didnt have O'Brien then who would be playing that role? I dont see anyone on the list so to me it was a savvy move by the club. He is also learning a new system and I think with more time playing with Gardy and Keath natural improvement is coming

Except O'Brien was always seen as a very flaky player at Hawthorn.
It's not exactly like picking up a Tom Barrass, Darcy Moore, Jake Lever or Tom Stewart.
Sure we picked him up for peanuts but he hasn't really done anything to show me that he is a long-term option in defence. Apart from Keath we are very average in KPDs. we did recruit Naughton a couple of years ago to overcome this deficiency. But now we see him as our main KPF.
We need to go to the draft and trade table with a plan to get KPD's and a back up ruck.
I would look at a possible trade with West Coast for Barrass or Mcgovern, West Coast are in a rebuild and may need to salary dump. Of course I am talking a perfect scenario but we need to really be on the front foot in regard to this. It's obvious to most (not all) that our defence is very poor.
How do we improve? Well, maybe we have to give up a good midfielder which we have heaps of to try and get a deal done.
I always hear how good and deep our midfield is, well i would sacrifice one for the greater good.
If we don't improve the back half we will be treading water for quite a long time.

I did suggest Bailey Smith to Hawthorn, get Mitch Lewis in return, he is our KPF, Naughton is our KPD but understand not a lot love that idea. Unfortunately Dunkley wouldn't get us a prime key position player I wouldn't have thought.
