Can we not just ask for a future first and future a second/third pick?

This seems pretty simple to me.

If they finish top four I wouldn’t want their third pick.

This is not happening. All of this year's picks are being used for Ashcroft.

Future first and a future second or third is what is likely to happen.

Brisbane can trade picks before any bidding process, so their first rounder is almost certain to be traded away anyway. Helps us as we can offer late picks back to them as they'll need to points to match.
Helps too that if they do go into deficit, their first rounder becomes less valuable to them and more valuable to another team.

We had our own version of this with Ward, Griffen etc and few others a while back, however, this is another example of why losing players is nothing to be overly morbid about.

$700-$750k a year for 6 years. It’s not a godfather offer. I doubt we were under the 650-700 mark.

Which means he’s going for a fresh start / or he’s disgruntled about something IMO. Yes he tried to leave a couple years ago and the reasons were clear back then. Yes, everyone is hating on him now, but I’d still like to know the reasons why this time around as I was sure things had changed in his mind in the last two years.

It’s been a stinker season and questions need to be asked whether you like him or not.

I don't buy into all the money hungry BS and wish him all the best, but just to note the point - a 6yr/750k contract is worth $1.25m more than a 5yr/650k contract. I have no idea what the real amounts are, but if they are something like that, well, 1.25m is a fair bit of coin to forgo before you turn 31. If that's the equation on what we're prepared to offer, congrats Dunks and thanks for all the efforts. Always a Dogs premiership player. We all move on.

The easiest way to get it done is their 1st this year, their first next year, and give them back our 2nd or Norths 3rd this year for the points they need for F/S. And / or maybe a 3rd / 4th next year to help "balance the scales".

Doubt they'd want to give up their first and second this year, that would put them well behind on required points.

Their first this year is pick 16 which becomes 17 and next years first will be about the same.

It will equate in points at least to about pick 4 or 5.

While points don’t always equal the pick value I can’t see dogs wanting to give back another pick in the 30s also assuming we need one of these in the Lobb deal ?

Richards likely, Bont maybe (even with a lesser year by his standards), Macrae again seemed down on previous years to the eye and less CB attendance (even if stats aren't bad), Treloar and Dale racked them up so might get in by default, or Baz?

I don't see how this deal gets done. He is one of our best mids and polled the most Brownlow votes for our club this season. I would've thought he is worth 2 first rounders.

I don't agree with the notion of players just selecting whatever club they want to move to. If he wants to leave, surely we can deal with another club that is going to net us better picks. He isn't a free agent and is a required player.

I actually don’t think a two pick downgrade in the mid to end of the first round is that much but understand I’m in the minority there.
